Auburn Baptist Church is once again planning a summer program in conjunction with its food pantry called “Summer Munch Boxes,” targeting families with children in need of food to eat during the summer months.
This program will be very similar to the backpack program used during the school year but this program will take place during June and July. “We have committed to approximately 105 children from Auburn and Chandlers Elementary Schools,” says Kim Meador Womack, one of the leaders of the outreach. “We feel that last year was a great start and this year we are offering this to all the children in the Family Resource program at these schools.”
Four dates have been planned that families can receive a box of food from the church. These are “kid friendly” foods that children can manage on their own. Also, this year the church is offering home delivery to individuals who do not have transportation. Distribution dates are June 7, June 21, July 5, and July 19 this year. They are taking food donations as well as monetary donations to purchase any food needed.
The church would gladly accept donations from other church groups, clubs or businesses. In a letter to Auburn area groups, they wrote, “If members of your church or business would like to donate to this project or please bring food to the Auburn Baptist Church. You may contact Kim Womack at 791-2107 or Rachel Hance at 893-4212 for more information.”
