The Logan County High School Drama Department performed Elf Jr. the Musical for the community on December 9 and 10 in the school’s Commons Area; a December 11 matinee had been scheduled but was cancelled due to the recent weather event.
Elf Jr. the Musical is based on the popular 2003 New Line Cinema hit Elf where Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly finds his way into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole to begin his life as one of Santa’s elves. Elf Jr. features songs by Tony Award-nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.
The troupe of actors for the production and their roles were as follows: Joshua Lawrence- Buddy, Abi King- Santa, Logan Dodson- Charlie, Josyn Luther- Shawanda, Hannah Britt- Sam, Lane Bibb- Walter Hobbs, Clare Perkins- Deb, Shaunna King- Emily Hobbs, Logan Dodson- Michael Hobbs, Claire Dayton- Jovie, Makayla Nichols- Sarah, Alison Moore- Mrs. Greenway, Paige Copen- Charlotte Duncan, Emily Sadler- Darlene Lambert, and Aaron Gloyd- Emma Van Brocklin.
Actors were joined on stage by ensemble cast members Lydia Davenport, Ashby Davis, Skylar McCarley, Mikayla Nichols, and Caylee Stranger.
Working as the crew were Hannah Britt, Katie Crump, Nate Farlee, Lydia McLean, and Wyatt Sublett.
The directing for Elf Jr. was done by theatre students Rileigh Gossett, Leslie Hernandez, and Chloe Newman.
Teachers who worked with the student production were Ben Adams, Kelley Lewis, David Dayton, and Samantha Shepherd. Students from Amy Taylor’s classes designed and created a pre-show winter wonderland. Faculty sponsor for the LCHS theatre program and the production’s executive director is Justin Kirby.
