A Young Artists Camp and a display of the works of a legendary Logan County artist are being offered by Kentucky Artisans at the Saddle Factory in Russellville, according to Kentucky Artisans Manager Linda Harlan.

This inaugural Young Artists Camp will be held June 10–12, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Saddle Factory Museum Annex and will feature classes in painting, drawing, fibers, leatherworks, photography, pottery, and jewelry-making in an effort to introduce young artists to a variety of mediums. Local history and art specific to the region will also be discussed as a part of the curriculum. All courses will be age appropriate and instructed by local artists.

All camp applicants must be enrolled in grades 7 through 12 for the 2013-2014 school year. Students may be enrolled in any school in the Logan County or Russellville School Systems. Home schooled children may also apply. Seventh grade students must be at least 12 years of age during 2013. To request an application, call 270-847-0231. Space is limited, so applications will be accepted in the order they are received.

“The fantastic Jennie DeBeneditto will be in Russellville,” says Lindsey Harlan, a Logan County native who lives in Murray. “She and I will help young artists discover a new passion for art! We are still accepting applications!”

"Miss Robbie", as she was known to everyone in Russellville, was a fixture to the city as she painted throughout the area. The exhibit includes paintings of local houses, landscapes and flower gardens. Many of her famous Christmas cards and Coat of Arms works will be shown as well. The paintings are on loan from the Russellville History Museum.

Kentucky Artisans at the Saddle Factory is open Wednesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

While in the building, you are invited to take a self-guided tour of the Saddle Factory Museum and browse the many items for sale by the Kentucky Artisans. Kentucky Artisans at the Saddle Factory, 321 E. 4th St., Russellville, is Logan County’s only source for ‘Kentucky Made’ arts, crafts and gifts, Harlan says.

Admission is free, although donations are accepted.
