Months of fun and fund-raising will culminate this weekend when the Logan County Relay for Life will be held at Logan County High School.

The  American Cancer Society’s largest annual fund raiser will be held June 14-15 from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday at Logan County High School’s football field. This is a time for friends to share food, fun, memories and games. In the midst of all that will be times of sadness and sweet memories of those who have been victimized by the monster known as cancer along with rejoicing over those who have survived the dreaded disease.

The purpose of Relay for Life is collecting funds that will be used as the never-ending search for prevention of and cures for cancer continues.

Former Logan County Relay Chair Terrie Lawson, who is now community representative for the Mid-South Division  American Cancer Society headquartered in Bowling Green, notes that in 2012 alone, Logan County had 176 new cancer incidences in a population of 25,100.  Also last year, Logan Countians received 256 services, the Russellvillian says.

“Additionally, 12 Logan Countians received free wigs, 40 went on Road to Recovery Rides and four people stayed a total of 35 nights at Hope Harbor for an average hotel night savings of $125, which totals $4,375 savings,” Lawson says.
