Lee Dockins has been the dominant women’s gymnast in Kentucky Special Olympics for several years, and she’s added to that reputation and success nationally and internationally in recent years.

She has added to her resume the past two years by competing in rhythmic gymnastics to her repertoire in addition to the artistic gymnastics she’s always done.

This weekend she showed she has mastered this new field by winning the gold medal in all five rhythmic gymnastics events at the Kentucky State Special Olympics at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.

Dockins, a graduate of Logan County High School, believes her total medal count now has reached 115, most of them gold.

She will compete in artistic gymnastics at the next state meet in November.

Lee Dockins began taking gymnastics lessons when she was 8 years old. She now is 26. Her coaches all along the way have been Polly and Donnie Porter, owners of Logan County Gymnastics. Polly Porter was at the state meet as was one of the coaches who works at Logan County Gymnastics, Chelsea Gibbs.

Lee was also accompanied by her parents, Harris and Sharon Dockins.
