Russellville students earn honors in competition

The Russellville Middle Grades academic team participated in its regional Governor's Cup tournament on Saturday, Feb. 13. The Russellville Future Problem Solving Team placed first in the region and is eligible for participation in the state tournament, which takes place in Louisville on March 13-15. The Middle Grades FPS team has won regional tournaments for several years now, and has placed in the top five at the state tournament twice in the last five years.
Congratulations to Jason and Jeffrey Fox, Sydney Herndon, Allie Blythe, and Danielle White for a job well done.
Russell'ville's Quick Recall team and Future Problem Solving team both placed second at the district tournament, and the FPS team went on to place first in regionals. Trey Farlee placed fifth in science and fourth in arts and humanities. Wesley Stratton placed second in math and third in social studies. Jason Fox placed first in arts and humanities

DECA students in awards at regional
The Russellville High School Marketing/DECA Students competed in the Region II Career and Development Conference.Thirty out of the 33 students who participated won awards and will be going to the State Conference in Louisville on March 21-23.

Top award winners were: Electronic Video Advertising- 2nd Place-D.J. Quarles, Travez Hampton, and Victor Hampton; Electronic Audio Advertising- 3rd Place-Team 1: Brian Harris, Kevin Browder and D.J. Watkins; 4th Place-Team 2: Fletcher Brown and Heather Yancey; Free Enterprise Basics- 1st Place- Max Howard; Sales & Customer Service- 2nd Place - McLean Shutt; Hospitality & Tourism Operations Research- 3rd Place- Team 1: Corey Hall, Darrell Todd, and Cooper Ray; 4th Place-Team 2: LeAndra Hoosier, Senica McGuire; and Imani Hampton; Sports & Entertainment Operations Research-1st Place: Lucas Celsor and Trevor Clark; Community Service Project- 5th Place: Team 1- Karmeshia Rose and Kiesha McDowell; 7th Place- Chelsea Hall, Kelsey Cross, and KeAndra Edmonds; Advertising Campaign- 2nd Place: Antonio Todd and Brittany Hampton; Technical Sales Event - 2nd Place: Breanna Shelton; Hospitality Services - 7th Place: Mallory Priddy and Shannon Pate; Sports & Entertaining Marketing - 5th Place: Oliver Townsend and Emily Hann. Also participating were Gatlin Milam in Food Marketing, and Deon Patterson and Browning Smith in Team Travel and Tourism Marketing.

RHS band members chosen
Congratulations to music students from the middle and high school bands on their accomplishments in All-District and WKU Honors Bands. All of the students are under the direction of Band Director Brian Brown.

All-District Band competition was on Jan. 7-9 at WKU. Brayden Haskins - 5th Chair Trumpet 11/12 Grade Band; Bryce Duncan - 5th Chair Baritone 9/10 Grade Band; Taylor Swallows - 2nd Chair Flute 9/10 Grade Band; Jason Fox - 3rd Chair French Horn 7/8 Grade Band; Jeffrey Fox - 3rd Chair Alto Sax 7/8 Grade Band.

WKU Honors Band competition was Jan. 23-25: Making the Second Band were Brayden Haskins - 3rd Chair Trumpet, Taylor Swallows - 5th Chair Flute. Eric Goddard - 4th Chair Trombone.
Sarah Fox earned 6th Chair Flute in the Top Band.
