Several students from Russellville Junior/Senior High School recently competed at the National Beta Club Convention and the National Junior Beta Club Convention in Richmond, Virginia. Katie Paul took home third place in Sculpture at the junior convention. Skyler Hale also attended the junior convention in the Charcoal Sketching category.

At the senior convention, Sydney Herndon placed second in Onsite Colored Pencil Drawing, and Ethan Mullen placed second in Science. Earlier this year, Herndon and Mullen were each awarded a $1000 National Beta Scholarship.

The junior convention was held from June 21- 24, and the senior convention took place June 25-28. Only Beta students who placed in the top three in the competition category in which they competed at state were eligible to attend the national conventions.

Vicky Mathis sponsors the Russellville Junior High School Beta Club. “I am extremely proud of all nine students who were able to compete in nationals. It has been an honor to work with such outstanding students.”

Students attending the national competition included the T-Shirt Design team of Katie Paul, Emma McReynolds, Luci Suiter, Fernanda Rodriquez, and Halle York; Caroline Baker in Color Photography; Katie Lacy in Cross Stitching; Brendon Farlee in Handmade Jewelry; and Katie Paul in Sculpture.

“This is an excellent accomplishment for our young club,” said Mathis.

The Russellville High School Senior Beta Club is sponsored by Tanya Mullen, who stated, “I am so very proud of these students’ continued success and accomplishments.”

At the state competition, three students qualified for the national senior division. Emilie Gill placed first in Onsite Pencil Drawing; Sydney Herndon placed first in Onsite Colored Pencil Drawing and Ethan Mullen placed second in Science.
