Christmas in Kentucky, the Kentucky Museum’s annual holiday celebration, is set 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 featuring free activities for children and adults.
The program begins right after the Christmas parade in downtown Bowling Green with free parking available next to the Kentucky Museum on WKU’s campus.
All activities are free and include ornament making, gingerbread sampling, a scavenger hunt, games and much more. Enjoy a magician, carolers, musicians, costumed characters and Big Red. Santa and Mrs. Claus visit with children, and are available for photos. Visitors are encouraged to bring their personal cameras for pictures.
“Christmas in Kentucky is a wonderful family oriented-event,” said Kentucky Museum Education Curator and event organizer Christy Spurlock, a former English teacher at Logan County High School. “Many attend the downtown Christmas parade and then come over to the museum to continue the fun. We have become an annual holiday tradition for many families.”
Mr. Magic will be providing periodic shows with a variety of tricks and jokes. Guests can make different ornaments to take home at the many ornament-making stations with the help of WKU student-athletes. Strolling carolers and musicians provide upbeat seasonal music to get participants in the spirit.
Costumed characters in period attire complement exhibits with games and activities for everyone in the family. In the log house, guests can eat gingerbread and explore life in early Kentucky. Big Red will also be on hand that day for pictures and games.
“This event would not be possible without the hard work of WKU staff, students, and volunteers,” Spurlock said. “We appreciate all they’ve done to make this event successful year after year.”
This year US Bank, Bowling Green’s NBC40 and CBS40 are sponsors. For information, contact Lynn Ferguson at (270) 745-2592.
