Several members of the Russellville Junior High School Academic Team competed at Sixth Grade Showcase at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville on Saturday.

Three students received medals for their performance: Emma-Grace Gwynnette (1st social studies and 5th arts & humanities); Chaun Cheaney (2nd in language arts); and Karlee Elrod (6th in written composition and 6th in language arts).

Seven schools competed in the event, including Russellville Junior High School, University Heights Academy, Heritage Christian Academy, Auburn School, Olmstead Middle School, Muhlenberg North Middle, and Muhlenberg South Middle.

Sixth Grade Showcase is an academic event designed to provide a competitive opportunity for Kentucky’s sixth graders, who are sometimes “lost” between elementary (4-5) and middle grades (6-8) Governor’s Cup competition. It is sponsored by the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
