Jack Carver, who was a beloved pharmacist in Russellville for many years, died Saturday, Jan. 3, in Louisville.

After owning Perry’s Drugstore in Russellville from 1969-1986, he sold his assets and moved with his family to Louisville. He worked as a pharmacist there before retiring. He was 70 at the time of his death.

Perry’s Drug Store, which had been an integral part of Russellville downtown commerce since 1837, was bought by David Hancock, who then sold it to Jerry White and Carroll Riley of Riley-Whie.

A graduate of Lewisburg High School, Jack Carver was a tireless civic leader in Russellville, especially in the Jaycees and the Logan County Chamber of Commerce along with merchants’ association.

He loved having fun with his friends and sometimes at his friends’ expense, all good-naturedly. Often he could be found in leadership activities and pranks along with attorney James Milam, realtor Steve Clarke, banker Jon Paul Stuart, and fellow pharmacist Jerry White.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara P. Carver; parents, James W. Carver and Viola E. Pate; and step-brother, Glen Pate.

He is survived by his sons, Jim and John Carver of Louisville, and step-brother, Robert Pate.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m.Tuesday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road in Louisville.  Committal will be Wednesday at noon in Cave Hill Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. at Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church, 1722 Bardstown Road, all in Louisville.
