Four years after she accepted the position of office manager at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home, Tammeria Ramsey has taken a huge step in the funeral business. She is now a licensed funeral director for the state of Kentucky.

The Adairville native completed three years of training as an apprentice to Brent Summers, managing owner of the Russellville-based funeral home. She passed the final examination as required by the Kentucky Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors in June. The exam consists of general knowledge of funeral directing and Kentucky laws.

Ramsey is the daughter of the late Sidney Tanner and Peggy Sircy Tanner. She is married to Keith Ramsey and they enjoy spending time with their daughter and son in law, Keshia and Trent Stamps, and their five grandchildren. Tammeria is a lifelong member of Whippoorwill Baptist Church, where she serves as Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. After graduating from Logan County High School and the Russellville Vocational School, she worked as an office manager and in the banking industry. In 2011 she began working for Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home.

Not long into this position, she also began helping Summers in other areas of the funeral business.

“Brent suggested that I think about serving my apprenticeship with Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home and become a licensed funeral director,” she recalls,

In April 2012, Summers and Ramsey went before the Kentucky Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors to be accepted into the apprenticeship program. She had to serve a three year apprentice with Brent as her supervisor and his training her to become a funeral director. Tammeria did not have to attend school, as all of the training was hands on.  After completing three years of training, keeping a daily work log and semi-annul reports to the state board,

Tammeria is pleased to say that she is now a licensed funeral director for the state of Kentucky and looks forward to serving Logan County families.

Brent Summers says, “We believe Tammeria was lead to Summers, Kirby and Sanders where she is the office manager and a licensed funeral director. Our team is striving to serve each of our families to the best of our ability in everything we do.”
