On Friday, Oct. 9, despite the rainy conditions, The R Club of Russellville High School joined the Russellville Alumni Association’s annual Meet & Greet in high fashion under the "Panther Party Tent" set up in the tailgating area at Rhea Stadium. The evening also was set aside to observe the Rhea Stadium Memorial Dedication.

There were approximately 250-300 people gathered to enjoy visiting with friends, reminiscing, enjoying music provided by WRUS, and feasting on Roy's BBQ.

Reunion goers had opportunity to see what began as a dream in September 2014 literally come true before them with the “Brick” football display revealing so many bricks purchased.

Superintendent Leon Smith, board members including Chairman James Milam, friends, students and alumni came from far and near!  For example, in an accompanying photo, Sue (Edwards) Vlassopulos from London, England, and Kyle and Emogene Rushing of Plano, Texas, enjoyed seeing each other and visiting once again.

Also pictured are those most responsible for the R Club’s portion of the evening: Barbara Smith Taylor, Jean Sosh Reynolds, Ann Page Province McReynolds, Greg Owens, and Mary Jean Celsor.

Sonny Green and his nephew, Buddy Wright, had many of his original “Panther” items on display and for purchase.

Owens stated that brick sales continue to climb so the memorial should be much larger next year. He says, “Please let us know how we can help you get your brick ordered.”

A brick application may be secured at the Central Office or on the R Club Facebook page.

A highlight of the evening was recognition of the Golden Anniversary class of 1965. Many of the key players from that class’ state finalist team in the fall of 1964 were there.
