Throughout the month of September, Adairville Kindergarten classes were studying about the Adairville community and took several walks downtown to meet and learn about some of their community helpers.

First, they visited the Adairville Fire Department where Jon Keith Smith talked with the students about the job of the volunteer fireman. They allowed the students to tour the fire department, see the fire truck, and experience the weight of the water hose as it is used to put out fires.

Students then attended the Adairville Branch of the Lewisburg Banking Company. They were given the grand tour of the bank and the old vault. Students returned to school where they competed in a coloring contest and wrote about what they would do with money they saved in their piggy banks. The winners were chosen by bank personnel, and Captain America made a special trip to the school to deliver the special prizes for the winners.

The third trip was to the Adairville branch of the Logan County Library where Carole Ann Faulkner came and read them several stories. Mrs. Carole Ann shared with the students how they can visit the branch library or even the new Logan County Public Library in Russellville for storytime and other great resources that are available through the Library Services.

The last day, they walked to the Adairville Post Office where the postmaster gave them a grand tour of the building. She explained the process of how the mail is delivered to students either at their home or the post office box. After seeing the locked side of the post office boxes and then seeing how mail was sorted on the other side, students understood how mail is delivered.

Two days of the trip, students also received special treats at the local Costello Café. They enjoyed a sprite on one day to cool off after the walk downtown and ice-cream cones on another. Other community helpers visited the students at school, including bus driver Penny Robey, School Nurse Mrs. Jane Austin and X-ray technician Jenny Rogers.
