Chandlers students and staff have been focused on wellness this fall.

Students recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week with a focus on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Staff and students participated in dress-up days all week, which ended in a costume day to “scare away drugs.” Additionally, students signed pledges to remain drug free and participated in other activities to educate themselves on the effects of drugs.

Officers from the Russellville Police Department and Logan County Sherriff’s Office spoke with middle school students about staying drug-free and also brought the canine unit for a demonstration.

Students also learned more about health and wellness by attending the award-winning Foodplay performance. This assembly, sponsored by Logan County Schools Food Services, educated students on the importance of healthy eating habits. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade enjoyed this entertaining and informative presentation.

Chandlers Staff Synergize Team has also been working to be positive role models for students in the area of health and wellness. Staff members have participated in several walking challenges sponsored by Humana. Staff members track their daily step counts and then upload them online. Teacher Stanley Fleming has led the way, often averaging over 30,000 steps per day.

Nurse Marcy Duncan also helped keep staff healthy by encouraging all to get flu shots and administering the shots in her office. Staff and students hope to continue to support healthy habits as they look ahead to 2016.
