At the May Russellville Independent School Board meeting, Karlee Elrod and Maddox Saul were recognized for their participation in the Duke TIP 7th grade Talent Identification Talent Search.
As part of the Duke TIP Talent Search, students are invited to take the ACT as seventh graders. Duke TIP Talent Search Program recognizes students who qualify for state recognition and grand recognition.
These two students not only qualified for the state recognition but also qualified for the grand recognition. Each of them scored at or better than 90 percent of the recent juniors and seniors on one or more parts of the ACT. Only about 3 percent of all the participants in the talent search qualify for this grand recognition.
Gifted and Talented Education teacher Nancy Skipworth told the board members that the school system is very proud of these students.
Also, Cheri Harris Smith was recognized as her position as Superintendent Intern comes to a close.
She states, when I joined the Russellville Independent School family approximately a year ago for the second year of my Superintendent Internship, I never imagined the rich experiences and authentic relationships that would develop. (Superintendent) Leon Smith has been an invaluable asset throughout this year, by assuring countless opportunities for me to grow as a district administrator. He trusted me enough to allow me to seek opportunities and projects that would allow me to grow, while providing the district with additional assistance.”
She continued, “I believe my work with Russellville Independent Schools has prepared me for my next position as the principal for Owensboro Middle School. The ability to view situations from a district-perspective will definitely be an asset.
“I am grateful to the Russellville Independent Board of Education members and Mr. Smith for allowing me to complete my internship here. I was fortunate to work in a Central Office filled with individuals, not just willing, but enthusiastic to share their expertise. I will miss Russellville but will cherish the memories and friendships I have made here. A part of my heart will always purr as a Panther.”
