RHS Principal's Report for March 19

Posted on March 19, 2017 8:26 PM

The RHS Academic Team returned home on Monday afternoon after spending the weekend in Lexington competing in the State Governor’s Cup Tournament. Our quick recall team was 1 of 32 teams to make it to the level from within the entire state. We also had a record number of students to qualify for the state event this year and we are very proud of their efforts to compete at the state level. A huge thanks to team coach, Jennifer Rogers, for her continued leadership with the group, as well as Mrs. Donna Wilkerson for the countless hours she devotes to our academic team programs at all levels!!

JROTC

Several RHS JROTC students, along with their guests, participated in the LCHS Military Ball last evening at LCHS as members of the Panther Platoon. Superintendent Leon Smith and Superintendent Paul Mullins were asked to speak to the cadets and their guests during this event. Both spoke of how proud they are of the students who participate in the JROTC program and how much they appreciate the leadership and sacrifices made by these students.

LTC Mike Triplett presented Mr. Smith with a special award, the Commander’s Award for Public Service, to honor the contributions that Mr. Smith has made during his 33-year tenure in education. Mr. Mullins, on behalf of the Logan County Board, also presented Mr. Smith with the Golden Apple Award in recognition for his service to the students of our community and his willingness to work collaboratively with their district.

SSG Louis Pence, Kentucky National Guard Recruiter, was also honored and recognized for his many contributions to the JROTC program, including resources needed to host the ball. The dinner concluded with the retirement of the colors as the cadets and their guests prepared to fellowship and dance for the rest of the evening.

ARCHERY

The Russellville Archery team was in action this weekend at a tournament hosted by Todd County. Coach Jeramy Rust reported the following results:
Taylor Gwynette---2nd Place
Blaine Holley---4th Place
Rainbow Browning—7th Place
Jennifer Wilkerson—10th Place

The archery team will travel to Auburn this weekend to shoot in a 3D tournament. The 7th-12th grade students will then travel on to Warren East to shoot in the KHSAA Regional Tournament at 5:30. We wish our archery students the best of luck as they prepare for the regional and state tournaments.
