The Russellville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated Flag Day, June 14, with a luncheon at McCutchen Meadows the home of Ben and Katina Kemplin.  Over 50 Daughters and guests were treated to an afternoon of delicious food and a presentation by Kentucky State Vice-President of the Sons of the American Revolution Geoff Baggett.  Dressed in period costume, he spoke on the history of the American Flag throughout the generations.

After a short business meeting, Jackie Powell, presented the DAR Good Citizens Award that was created in 1934 to encourage and reward the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in homes, schools, and communities.  This year’s recipients were Dalton Nash, Logan County High School, and Micah Naylor, Russellville High School.

Before Daughters and guests were invited to tour the home, Ben Kemplin spoke on the historical background of the McCutchen-Coke family, the namesakes of the home and land.  Several members and guests also toured the cemetery.
