Russellville Community Ed classes announced

These new Community Education class offerings in Russellville provide a wide variety of educational experiences:

Everyone that has taken this class, has simply loved it! Therefore, we are offering another one-time BREAD MAKING class to be held on Saturday, April 14. This class will be hands-on bread-making steps with added humor and science, plus you
will leave with dough that will bake into two loaves of bread! The instructor is Martin Elmes, and he will also demonstrate how to make English Muffins! The class will be held at the Russellville Independent Schools Central Office, 355 S. Summer St., from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost will be $20 per student, and each student is asked to please bring a mixing spoon and a 2 qt. mixing bowl. Please register on or before Thursday, April 12.

Chris Holloman, Russellville Jr/Sr High School Visual Arts teacher, will once again offer another Visual Arts Class, The Joy of Art: Drawing. We will explore several types of drawing and drawing media. The cost will be $50 for 5 weeks. All supplies are included. Sessions will begin Tuesday, March 13, and will end April 17. Classes will be held at Russellville Jr/Sr High School, in Room 12, from 4-5 pm. Please register on or before Monday, March 12.

Do you desire to learn the basics of conversational Spanish? This six-week class will begin Monday, March 19, and end Monday, April 30. Classes will be held at Stevenson Elementary School, in Room 24C, from 4-5 p.m. The instructor is Eunice Arevalo, the RIS Bilingual Tutor. The cost will be $60 for 6 weeks!! Sessions will include the sounds of Spanish, the alphabet, words you should know, numbers, telling time in Spanish, common phrases, key expressions, and important vocabulary words. Please register on or before Friday, March 16.

Have you ever found yourself wanting to “stay out of the drive-thru” and get out of the “same-old-meals” rut? Time is valuable for us all, and this class may be just what you’re looking for! Instructor Tera Ragland will be teaching us how to prepare “A Week’s-worth-of-Meals” (5 meals) at each Class. You will receive recipe cards each night as you bring your “weeks’ worth” of groceries and assemble the meals together. The entrees will consist of a mix of beef, chicken, and pork for Asian, Mexican, Italian, and American cuisines: freezer meals, slow-cooker meals; insta-pot meals, soups, stews, etc. The class will be held at Stevenson Elementary from 5-6 p.m, beginning Tuesday, March 13, through Tuesday, April 24. The cost will be $60 per student f.or the entire 6 classes. Please register on or before Monday, March 12.

Chris Holloman, of Dromgoole KDF Historic Fencing, will offer a new and exciting class: Introduction to German Longsword and Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA). Have you always wanted to learn about swords and sword fighting? This class will explore the teachings of German master swordsman, Johannes Liechtenauer, and other manuscripts of the medieval period. You will get to handle a variety of reproduction and training weapons (Long sword, side sword, sword and buckler, and rapier) while learning how they were actually used. The cost will be $40 for 4 weeks! All supplies are included. Sessions will begin Tuesday, March 13, and will end April 10. Classes will be held at Russellville Jr/Sr High School, in Room 12, from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Please register on or before Monday, March 12. 

Would you like to learn to play the Guitar or improve your skills? We will be offering another Guitar class starting on Monday, March 12, through April 23. This 6–week class will offer basic lessons, and each student will need to provide their own guitar. The instructor will be Marty Olson. The class will be held at Stevenson Elementary from 5-6 p.m. The cost will be $60 per student for the entire 6 classes. Please register on or before Friday, March 9.

Some have inquired about the possibility of offering a Photography Class. For this class you will need a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera, not just a “point-and-shoot”. This class hopes to offer basic operational instruction during the first part of the class, and then have “lab time” or “hands-on time” to photograph sample scenes and situations.The instructor is Mandy Morris, owner of dollface Photography @dollfacephotos. The cost will be $40 per student for the entire 4 classes. The class will begin on Monday, April 16, and go through May 7. It will be held at the Russellville High School Library from 4-5 p.m. Please register on or before Friday, April 13.

 

We are offering a class this spring for anyone interested in learning sign language and having the ability to communicate with the deaf community. This 6-week program will assist you in learning the basics of conversational sign language. Sessions will begin Monday, April 9, and end May 7. Classes will be held at Russellville High School, in Room 18, from 5—6 p.m. The instructor is Bethani Blume. The cost will be $60 for 6 classes. Sessions will include learning deaf history, the culture, and etiquette along with grasping a better understanding of ASL (American Sign Language) through words you should know, common phrases, and key expressions. *Must have a minimum of 4 to have the class and a maximum of 10 — Please register on or before Friday, April 6.
