RHS students get ideas during IdeaFestival at WKU

On Thursday, Feb. 15, Ms. Bethanie Hargett-Slack and Mrs. Nancy Skipworth accompanied RHS students to the “IdeaFestival Bowling Green 2018: What's Your Big Idea?”  It was held in the historic Van Meter Hall and Downing Student Union at Western Kentucky University. 

IdeaFestival Bowling Green is an annual one-day event organized by The Center for Gifted Studies to bring together Kentucky's creative thinkers and ambitious innovators sharing their BIG ideas. Modeled-on and in agreement with Louisville's IdeaFestival, IFBG features speaker panels and hands-on activities targeted towards the region's most curious and motivated junior high and high school students. 

It involves speakersminds-on, hands-on activitiessponsors, past festival ideas, and student engagement materials

This year the students had opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, global health, infographic design, social entrepreneurship, planetary astrophysics, chocolate, video game design, 3-D printing, what it's like to be in a spinning space capsule, animal anatomy, coding, robots, making art with a typewriter, soldering, laser cutters, poetry, puppeteering, and more. 

Over 800 participants from 21 schools representing 14 school districts were in attendance.  

Russellville High School students attending were Eddie Barber, Olivia Bollenbecker, Kaden Boyd, Jayce Buchner, Maleah Buckner, Cecily Christie, Zavius Coleman, Makayla Davis, Mia DeVinney, Karlee Elrod, Brendan Farlee, Cassady Farwick, Taryn Gray, Jayden Hammer, Tonisha Hampton, Katie Ray Holloman, Parker Jones, Dakota Marc, Laura Mullen, Katie Paul, Gabbie Poirer, Brooklyn Ray, Rian Saul, Robert Skipworth, Benjamin Slack, Allison Tatum, Morgan Todd, MyDuyen Tran, Brandy West, Lucy Wilkinson, Kyran Williams, Adam Williams, Kayleigh Williams, and Halle York.
