Russellville High sophomore Matthew Wilkerson has been notified of his acceptance into the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics, which is housed at Morehead State University in Kentucky.

The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics is a dual-credit residential high school for academically exceptional Kentucky students. The goal of the Craft Academy is to meet the unique educational needs of academically gifted and talented high school Juniors and Seniors in the Commonwealth. A college-level curriculum will allow students to finish high school while also completing up to two years of university coursework.

Wilkerson has also been notified that he has been accepted to the Gatton Academy, which is a similar program at Western Kentucky University.

Both of these prestigious programs are dual-credit options for high school juniors and seniors and allow admitted students to have a college experience beginning with their junior year.

Matthew’s older brother Phillip also attends the Gatton Academy. He, too, was accepted by both advanced schools. Getting accepted into one of these prestigious schools is indeed an honor but being invited to both the Gatton and the Craft academies is exceptional.

They are the sons of Steven and Donna Wilkerson. Their sister, Jennifer, is a student at Russellville Junior High.
