Robert Boone, President/CEO with the South Central Workforce Development Board, along with representatives from the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Career Center recently visited Logan County High School to help seniors plan for their futures. The cadre of business professionals discussed with students the challenges they might expect following graduation and upon entering the workforce.

The focus of the day’s activities was the importance and creation of a good resume. While the resume usually will not get the job candidate a job, it can help get them the invitation to an interview.

Utilizing the “Focus Career” site, students were encouraged to develop strong resumes listing their qualifications, relevant work experiences, and educational highlights. The community guests helped students navigate the site and worked with students on creating their resumes, explaining terms and providing advice.

Students then saved their creations using their personal email addresses, permitting them to further hone their project and making it available to them in the future.

The Kentucky Career Center currently works with seven area high schools in Warren, Metcalfe, Butler, Edmonson, and Logan counties and the Bowling Green Independent School System. Next year, there are plans to expand the number of opportunities the team will have to meet with seniors in order to better address the workforce skills necessary to ensure easier transition from high school to the adult workplace.
