Public and community service runs in the bloodline of Neil Kerr, making it natural that he would become a candidate for Commonwealth's Attorney for Logan and Todd counties, Kentucky's 7th Judicial Circuit.

His grandfather, the late John Kerr, not only succeeded the late Harry Whipple as plant manager at Rockwell but also served multiple terms as president of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce and as a magistrate in Todd County. His dad, Dr. Paul Kerr, has practiced dentistry in Logan County longer than anyone else currently. His mother, Marsha Kerr, is a retired school teacher. His uncle, Col. Jim Kerr, put together a distinguished military career. His sister, Katherine Kerr, is a nurse who has traveled extensively to assist in medical emergencies. Now she is graduating from Vanderbilt as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Now Neil Kerr and his family are following in that tradition. He has been Russellville City Attorney since 2010 and also serves in that capacity for the cities of Lewisburg and Adairville. He and his wife Emily are involved in a number of community service projects. Emily is vice president of the Chandler’s PTO where their son Harrison is a first grader.

Neil is a lifelong resident of Logan County. He attended Stevenson Elementary School and Russellville Middle School. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1997, where he was a standout soccer player. As an adult, he coaches in the Logan County Youth Soccer League each fall and spring season.

Kerr then went on to Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. where he graduated cum laude in 2001 with a B. S. in Biology, and minors in Philosophy and Political Science. Prior to graduation, he was nominated for an internship with the Tennessee State Legislature and thereafter was selected to serve as the intern for Tennessee State Senator Thelma Harper. 

Next, he attended law school at the University of Kentucky and graduated in 2006. He has remained loyal to his alma mater as a supporter of UK basketball.

Immediately after taking the bar exam, he returned to his hometown of Russellville to begin practicing law. Throughout his career, he has worked alongside other attorneys who are involved in public service.

He began by working in Elkton at the law firm of Dillingham, Ritchie & Petrie. Attorney Ken Dillingham was the first District Judge of Logan and Todd Counties, and Attorney Jason Petrie is currently serving the same area as State Representative. From there he moved on to serve as the judicial clerk for Judge Tyler Gill, who presides over Logan and Todd Circuit Courts. He then joined the law firm of Morgan & Williams in Russellville. Attorney Corey Morgan has filed to run for Commonwealth's Attorney of Allen and Simpson Counties. Judge Ken Williams is currently the District Judge for Logan and Todd Counties. 

Neil Kerr opened his current law office at 568 East Fourth Street, Russellville, soon after becoming city attorney. He represents clients in criminal, family, and civil litigation. Emily works with him in that office.

His candidacy is subject to the May 22 Republican Primary Election.
