For the 40th straight year, Rhea Stadium will be filled with the Sounds of Music. For four decades, the Russellville High School Band Boosters have sponsored the Show of Bands on the hill overlooking Russellville.

The Show of Bands features seven high school bands, eight counting the host Marching Panthers.

The seven competitors include three (Owensboro Apollo, Grayson County and Meade County) in Class 5A, two in Class 3A (Logan County and South Warren) and one each in 3A (Warren Central) and Dawson Springs in Class 1 A.

The National Anthem is to be played at 5:15 p.m., followed by recognition of the Marching Panthers’ seniors.

Director David Dayton’s Marching Cougars are scheduled to be the third band up, taking the field at 6:30, followed by their chief competition, South Warren.

After all seven bands have performed, host Russellville is scheduled to present its competition "Dreams You Dare to Dream" routine at 8:15, but the home band is not eligible for awards.

Then, the Murray State University Racer band will take the field for an exhibition. Directed by MSU graduates Brian Brown and Trevor Cardwell, the Russellville band has become a prime feeder program for Murray State. Several of the 202 band members are from Russellville and some from Logan County.

Tickets are available at the gate and concessions will be available inside
