Tyler Davenport has experienced what he calls “great encouragement” in the past few months.
A political newcomer, he was encouraged and thankful for the voters who chose him in May to be the Democratic nominee for First District Magistrate on Logan Fiscal Court. That has led to his being on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot.
While campaigning, he has been encouraged by people telling him that Logan County needs a new perspective by getting young people involved in public service.
Davenport qualifies as young by fiscal court standards. He celebrated his 35th birthday on Oct. 11. In his two campaigns this year, both men he has faced— each a political veteran—are more than twice his age.
He brings a great deal of experience to the campaign in other areas than government. Tyler has served as the Director of Technology and Chief Information Officer for the Logan County Schools since 2009. He not only leads a staff of five employees, but he is responsible for over 5,000 devices used by the county schools. In 2017, he managed a $2 million budget while the new Logan County Career & Technical Center was being built and fitted with extensive technology.
A life-long resident of Logan County, he and his wife, Lori Hall Davenport, have two sons, Layton, 8, and Trace, 4.
He is the son of Jimmy and Shirley Davenport and has two brothers, Ryan and Will. Lori’s parents are Billy and Dorothy Hall. Jimmy Davenport is a long-time Russellville City Councilman. Billy Hall previously represented the Chandlers area and served as chairman of the Logan County Board of Education. Lori and Dorothy Hall are businesswomen and Shirley Davenport is a retired banker.
A graduate of Murray State University with a BS Degree in Telecommunication and Systems Management, Tyler is a 2002 graduate of Russellville High School. He is a member of the Russellville Rotary Club and an active member of Second Baptist Church which he has attended his entire life.
He is a talented musician and is especially well-known for being an integral part of the popular group Backroads Bluegrass.
Tyler’s focuses in running for Magistrate in District 1 are community safety, economic development, and opportunities for children. On community safety Tyler says “We, and particularly our children, should be able live in a safe and secure environment. This includes the best law enforcement, fire protection, road safety, and emergency services available. I believe these to be some of the most important quality of life aspects of in our county, and we should maintain them to the highest level possible.”
“Economic development is the cornerstone of Logan County’s long-term viability” says Tyler. “Business and industry furnish our citizens the ability to provide for their families and the chance to advance in their chosen career. We need to continue to develop these resources so our children can have career opportunities at home in Logan County and not have to move elsewhere.”
As for opportunities and activities for children, Tyler says “Our children should have a safe environment where positive activities are available for them to participate in, whatever their age or interests. Positive activities with positive influences could make a great difference in the lives of so many of our young people and give them needed direction.”
Finally, Tyler Davenport says “As magistrate I would represent District 1 with integrity and common sense. The county magistrates should work together without unnecessary controversy. Our sights should be set on efficient current operations and the future of Logan County. Our future depends on the opportunities that are given to our community and children.”
