The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 SKyPAC Curtains Up! program. In keeping with SKyPAC’s mission to provide exceptional experiences through the arts, Curtains Up! offers K-12 schools within the 10-county Southcentral Kentucky service area the opportunity to apply for free rental space and equipment usage in one of SKyPAC’s three performance venues.

Four schools are selected to participate annually and will showcase their choice performance for the school year in either SKyPAC’s Main Hall, the Carol Wedge Studio Theater at SKyPAC, or the Capitol Arts Center.

A panel of judges reviewed the submitted applications, which was narrowed to the four schools selected to be featured. Those chosen for the 2019-2020 school year will include Bowling Green High School, Bristow Elementary School, Logan County High School, and Warren East Middle School.

While three of the schools have been involved in the Curtains Up! program in previous years, including LCHS, this will be the first time Warren East Middle School has participated.

"Warren East Middle School Music Department is honored to have been chosen for the Curtains Up! program. We are excited to give our students the opportunity to perform in a state-of-the-art venue where they will have the opportunity to experience the many facets that go into a professional performance. We appreciate the opportunity to give our community a chance to come together and support our young musicians in such a special way that they’ll remember for a lifetime," said Cedrick Leavell on behalf of the Warren East Middle School Music Faculty involved in the application process.

This year’s selected requests include Bowling Green High School’s choral and strings program in a collaborative performance of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” in the late winter/early spring; Bristow Elementary School’s production of The Wizard of Oz which will take place in the spring; Logan County High School’s concert with different ensembles including Symphonic and Jazz bands along with their Concert Choir in December; and Warren East Middle School’s presentation of the Raider Winter Spectacular with their student musicians in December.

SKyPAC is pleased to have Crocker Law Firm as a continuing sponsor of the Curtains Up! program. Their partnership helps SKyPAC reach its mission of providing exceptional experiences through the arts by exposing students to the life-changing and long-term benefits of onstage participation.

“When students take the stage as part of the Curtains Up! program, their energy changes. You can see how important the performance is to them and to their families, and Crocker Law Firm is excited to be able to share in those special memories,” said Attorney Cyndi Crocker of Crocker Law Firm.
