Despite the significant disruption to the spring semester, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) awarded a record number of 3,051 credentials to the 2019-2020 graduates. This represents a 28.6 percent increase in overall credentials awarded over last year. Additionally, the College recorded a 27.4 percent increase in the total number of graduates, with a 27 percent increase in credentials awarded to underrepresented minorities.
SKYCTC also exceeded the prior years’ total of technical degrees awarded with a 16% increase. "We are pleased to see the stunning number of credentials earned, even with the many changes our students faced in the spring because of COVID-19," SKYCTC President/CEO Dr. Phil Neal said. "It wasn't easy, but our students persevered under challenging circumstances and adapted to the new remote instruction like true champions. I'm extremely proud of them andour faculty and staff. Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) remains the number one provider of workforce training in the Commonwealth, and SKYCTC is proud to have contributed an increase in technical credentials awarded. Each credential conferred represents our student's achievement of the skills they need to have a good career and their ability to meet our region's workforce needs."
For the 2019-20 academic year, the 16 KCTCS colleges awarded 39,291 credentials, which included degrees, diplomas, and certificates. This is up nearly 6% over last year, which itself is a record year. The record number of credentials awarded pushes the total number of credentials awarded by the colleges of the KCTCS to half a million since KCTCS was created.
