Lewisburg School partners with community leaders

Even with virtual learning and a hybrid learning model, Lewisburg School has taken the opportunity to collaborate with community leaders and organizations to provide engaging programs for all students. The school counselor, Kelly Lewis, teamed up this year with Kids on the Block, Inc. and  the Logan County Extension Office to offer lessons to continue to help meet the academic and social emotional needs of students.
In October, Kids on the Block, Inc. performed a program for our Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. The interactive program taught our young students about what bullying looks like, how they can communicate with adults about bullying, and how to be a bystander to help others. Our students enjoyed the puppets and loved that they could ask questions. The program was performed via Zoom and students enrolled in our Virtual Academy got to participate as well.
The Logan County Extension Office provides several educational programs throughout the school year and we were very excited to bring some of these programs to our school. Carrie Derossett and Rachel Hance taught a lesson about organization to our middle school students. By using Zoom, students were able to interact with Mrs. Derossett and Mrs. Hance to learn about time management, stress management strategies, and coping skills. The skills taught will help students to be empowered learners and effective leaders at school and in their future endeavors.
Mrs. Derossett and Mrs. Hance will be teaching lessons about money management and career development to our students in Spring of 2021.
Dr. Josh Matthews, the principal says, “Lewisburg School is fortunate to have so many community leaders and organizations who are willing to collaborate with us so we can provide a well-rounded education for all students. We strive to create programs and opportunities for students that focus on teaching the whole child while also helping them become contributing citizens and strong individuals.”
