Pictures of people and times past are always of interest to me, especially those that have to do with genealogy and especially my family’s history. I thought I would share a few.

The first picture on this page was made in Houma, La. about 1918-1920. At that time my mother and Aunt Helen lived there. The story goes that one day the plane had to land in the field near their house and they had the opportunity to have their picture made up close. The older lady is Lucy McConnell McPhaill, wife of Malcom McPhaill. She raised my mother and Aunt Helen as her own. Their mother died when Elizabeth was 2. Elizabeth McPhaill Yates (my mother) is next to the propeller. Helen McPhaill Smith (her sister) is next. Harden Malcom McPhaill was father to Elizabeth and Helen and husband to Lucy).

The second picture shows Jane McPhaill Sawyer, sister to Malcom McPhaill, who I knew as Aunt Jane, since she was my grandfather’s sister. She was the postmistress of the post office at Bucksville for many, many years. She was married to Joe Sawyer. The two of them ran the store at Bucksville for many years also..

In the third picture are Elizabeth McPhaill Yates, who was married to Alfred Owen (McKinley) Yates, and right, Helen McPhaill Smith, who was married to Jack Smith, a well-known barber. This picture was made about 1910-1911.

The fourth picture shows my grandparents, Harden Malcom McPhaill and Lucy McConnell McPhaill.
