Hornets thank those who made first season special

While shopping and door-buster deals may be associated with this holiday, Thanksgiving, at its root, is about being thankful for the benefits, support, and blessings one has received. And it is at this moment we wanted to repeat our sentiment expressed last week, and thank the Bowling Green area community again for their immense support, encouragement, appreciation, and acceptance of the Bowling Green Hornets.

Thank you to Russellville High School for allowing us to use their facilities, and specifically thank you to Superintendent Leon Smith, Principal Kim McDaniel, and Mary Jureka Celsor for welcoming our organization with open arms. Thank you to the Logan Chamber and Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce for initially guiding us when we were building the foundation for the organization at the beginning of this year. Thank you to the citizens of Warren County, Logan County, Todd County, Simpson County, Allen County, and Christian County, for rooting us on during the season, even though you weren't too familiar with the brand or with all the players.

Thank you to the local media, including Jim Turner of The Logan Journal and the staff at the Bowling Green Daily News, News-Democrat & Leader, WBKO Television, and WBGN 1340 The Ticket for covering our games in a healthy, positive, and encouraging manner, while remaining patient with us as we grow as an organization. Thank you to the students, professors, administrative officials, athletic staff, and players of Western Kentucky University and WKU Hilltopper Basketball for cooperating with us and helping us behind the scenes in better assisting the community. Thank you to the local businesses and organizations that reached out to us to offer their services and have been continuously advising us on business matters during this off-season.

Thank you to Captain Stephen Stratton for helping us assemble police personnel at the home games, and thank you to J.D. Menser for entertaining the crowd as Buzz the Hornet. Thank you to our players, some of whom traveled from Chattanooga, Nashville, Louisville, and Lexington, just to be part of our roster. Thank you to our former head coach, and the first coach of this team, Otis Key, for leading the Hornets ship in our pilot season. And finally, thank you to current Head Coach Nathan Thompson and his family, as well asMaurice Hampton, for taking time out of their day for the last three months, and carefully planning every detail for long-term success of this organization on and off the court.

Of course, there are many others that we are thankful for, and we have missed in this note, but please accept our genuine gratitude for your support, patience and everything else you have done for us.

But, we also wanted to take a moment and also thank those that will be heavily involved in the community on this holiday today. Thank you to the doctors and nurses of all the local hospitals and clinics for taking care of the patients, whether it be our family member, friend, or neighbor. Thank you to the police officers and firefighters for keeping our neighborhoods and homes safe during any events that may God-forbid happen today, tomorrow, or at any time of the week. And thank you to the brave military servicemen, who have come from the Bowling Green area and other parts of this country, for protecting our nation, and allowing us the opportunity to celebrate this holiday at home in peace and tranquility. Please take a moment and reflect on the sacrifices of these individuals, and thank them at any and every opportunity you can.

On behalf of everyone involved with the Bowling Green Hornets Basketball organization, we would like to wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving, and we look forward to your continued support as we approach the 2014 season.
