Leadership Logan is sponsored by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce. It is a program designed for any individual who wants to: learn more about Logan County, become more of a part of the community through volunteer involvement, improve quality of life and work toward preservation and progress of our community. The program requires all participants to attend a ten-month meeting schedule, participate in six government and/or civic meetings and complete a class project.
During the year, the class is exposed to the county’s rich heritage and history, laws and lawmakers, business climate, environmental assets, agriculture strengths, education systems, and services offered for residents.
Each class selects an organization they choose to support, through their class project. As class president, I am proud to announce that Logan County Adult Education will be one of the recipients of the 2013-2014 Alumni Project.
Through our travels and meetings, the class has been exposed to great natural resources, people and organizations that affect the quality of life for citizens of Logan County. Witnessing both great strengths and sadly great needs in our community, the class saw first hand the double sword of both the progress and the demand when we toured Logan County Adult Education facility. The tour was very enlightening. We had no idea how many people from all ages and walks of life that were being assisted and who would benefit from GED testing scholarships.
Through our year-long efforts, the 2013-2014 Leadership Logan class raised $1,200 to donate toward GED scholarships and presented Cheryl Kelley of Adult Education with a check on Thursday, May 8. “This scholarship money is so important to our program,” stated Kelley. “The cost of the GED exam doubled in January and is prohibitive for most of our students. We cannot thank Leadership Logan enough.”
