65th ANNUAL MEETING YA'LL COME!!!!

Potluck Dinner/Meeting (1:00) September 14, 2014

Be sure and bring a dish for the dinner which starts at 1:00 p.m.. The food is always delicious and the fellowship is heavenly. The annual meeting will follow the dinner and begin at 2:00 p.m.

Derek Guyer will be our speaker. He and his wife, Lisa, and their six children live in Auburn. As a couple, they have been ministering to broken marriages across the country for more than seven years. Derek has been invited into churches, camps, and homes all around the country to teach seminars and retreats. Derek's faith began taking root while being raised as a preacher's kid and has grown and blossomed since he's been called to serve and help struggling homes. He is passionate in his pursuit of God and His living word. This passion is evident in his teaching and lifestyle. When he's not ministering to marriages and loving on his family, you'll find him working in his wood shop building reclaimed furniture and home decorations, illustrating pictures into leather or into a recently published children's book, Under the Silvery Moon. He also enjoys singing lead with his quartet, Big Time, and the local chorus, The Spirit of the Commonwealth. We are excited about the Guyers joining our RRMH family and look forward to hearing him speak.

Please take notice of the important dates on the front page.

Repairs on Meetinghouse

All Things Construction was hired to correct the structural problems in the meetinghouse. Roger Putman Jr. is very experienced with log cabins and working with the state on grants. His crew did an excellent job installing beams and restoring the building to an upright position (it was leaning). The beams usually arrive in “safety” colors such as neon green, yellow or orange. Our beams arrived in a beautiful pine color which was a manufacturing mistake. We were thrilled with the mistake!! The beams are perfect for the interior of the meetinghouse and the room seems more open now.

In order to save money, a crew of 10 volunteers worked at removing the old chinking from the meetinghouse on Feb. 22. God blessed us with an absolutely warm and gorgeous day to work.

All Things Construction returned a month later and installed new chinking which will help to preserve the meetinghouse for years to come.

Thank you to Rep. Martha Jane King for securing the grant that helped make the repairs possible. If you have donated toward the repairs too, we greatly appreciate it.

Promotions to Glory

Bertie Mae Hall and her sister, Mildred Davis, both in their 90s, recently passed away. They were so faithful to attend all of our annual meetings and they were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church that once stood where the present meetinghouse now stands.

In her own words regarding RRMH, Bertie Mae said, “Red River Cemetery was a wilderness. Snakes crawling all over it. They would lay on the stones around the General Ewing lot. We would visit the cemetery after frost so we could see where we put our feet.

When the community had a revival at Red River some years ago and Bro. Howard Starks was our preacher, and it was his night to come up and the Berea congregation went I sat in the left section toward the back. In the center section where the long pole goes from the front wall to the back wall lay this old big snake with his tail hanging off the pole and his head raised to watch. The lights, music, voices and commotion had the snake charmed. Margaret Robey sang and Mildred Harper played the organ. I never took my eye off the snake just knowing he was going to fall off the pole around somebody's neck. When Bro. Starks said 'Amen.' I shot out the front door, as I had all the snake I wanted.”

These ladies will be sorely missed.

Monsanto Seed Company

Red River Meetinghouse and Cemetery was awarded $2,500.00 from the Monsanto fund on behalf of local farmer, Rich Moore, who was selected through America's Farmers Grow Communities. Thank you so much, Rich, for choosing RRMH. This money was used for new chinking in the repaired meetinghouse.

Blanket Trade Day

The weather was cold, but sunny. The crowd was small, but happy and having fun visiting, shopping and selling their wares. Children ran and played on the grounds while the adults conversed. Darlynn Moore was surprised with a birthday party on Friday night. The potluck meal was a delight and the round robin game was very educational and rewarding. We were so blessed to have Parson John (Frank Jarboe) preach his first sermon after spending time in the hospital with blood clots in both lungs. God spared Frank's life and we are grateful for that!

Overall, the weekend was a success and enjoyed by all.

Trees. trees and more trees!!

Bushels and Blooms donated 17 trees to the grounds in April. The Ruleys and Richard Moore planted them in various places around the site. Please be careful where you drive, there may be a new tree where you'd least expect it!! They are so pretty and will add shade and beauty to our grounds in the years to come.

While trees were being planted, a large family get together was being held on the grounds and children were hunting Easter eggs. What fun!

Busy, Busy Place

In May, the meetinghouse was host to three different groups and a wedding. Many groups have met at RRMH for services and prayer meetings throughout the year and many more are scheduled, which is another reason we feel modern restrooms and a pavilion are needed.

Education

During the first week of June, Steve Gove and Laura Blankenship, dressed in period clothing, met 4th and 5th graders participating in the annual "Discover Your Heritage" camp, sponsored by Main Street Russellville. Steve and Laura helped the campers learn about the Red River Meeting House.

Steve Gove, Laura Blankenship and Dreama Ruley, dressed in 1800 attire, met with the Logan County Homemakers on July 15. The ladies were given a history lesson followed by a sample of Steve Gove's traveling museum. Everyone enjoyed the day.

Have you seen our historical markers!!!

The Mauldings Fort marker was found in the ditch beside the road and was damaged. The Meetinghouse marker and the Mauldings Fort marker were taken to be repaired but now cannot be found so that they can be repaired in Frankfort. These markers cost $1,750 to be replaced and we would prefer to have the original markers repaired instead of spending the money on new ones. We'd like to use our money for building the restrooms and pavilion. If you have seen our markers or know where they can be found, please contact Carl Foster at 270-836-6490.

Check it Out!!

Matthew Ruley is working on our new website which will still be accessible through www.rrmh.org that Frank Jarboe set up for us 17 years ago. We appreciate Frank's work and look forward to Matthew's continuation of keeping the world informed.

President's Corner:

For several years money has been raised to go toward the building of much-needed restrooms and pavilion to be built on the grounds at Red River. A grant from the Carpenter Company was applied for in early winter, but unfortunately we were informed in July that we didn't get the grant. We have had two long hunter rifle raffles in which several dedicated Red River volunteers worked really hard going places to sell tickets. There has been numerous monetary donations made to Red River specifically for this special project. We are grateful for all these endeavors and we are so close to making this facility a reality, yet we still need donations to be able to build without going into debt. Oh what a wonderful day that will be! It is all about God's timing. Please join me in prayer for God's direction.
