During the week of July 13-17, the Logan County FFA Chapter sent 41 of our officers to the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center for a week at FFA camp. At FFA camp, there are many different activities that our officers participate in.

During the day, officers are separated into officer classes to help strengthen their leadership and communication skills so that they can better our chapter so we can go back to school and start doing events for our chapter. There are also special interest classes that our members sign up. Some of these classes consist of going to college, communication skills, forestry, or water safety. There are also athletics that go on throughout the day. The camps are separated into teams of colors and compete against each other.

As a Chapter, we’ve had many highlights from this week. We placed 1st in the chapter waterball tournament and placed 2nd in the chapter volleyball tournament.

Our 2015-2016 President, Morgan Hunt, got the opportunity to run for camp council and was elected as the vice president. This means she got to inspect cabins during the day, was in charge of raising and lowering the flag, and was able to meet several new people from chapters across the state. When asked about what camp council has helped her with, she said, “It gives me a chance to meet many different people and expand my leadership skills.”

Our 2015-2016 senior officer team also got the chance to participate in the ropes course this week. By doing the ropes course, our officer team learned how to communicate better and that teamwork is a very important quality to have as an officer team.

We also had several people from our chapter receive Leadership and Outstanding Leadership awards. Kenton Howard, Blake Taylor, Dru Brown, and William Bagby received Leadership awards. Morgan Hunt and Dylan Wilson received the Outstanding Leadership awards.

This week at the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center has been a great learning experience for all our members who attended, and we can’t wait to get back and use the skills we’ve learned this week to benefit our chapter.
