Auburn Elementary School believes in celebrating the everyday moments that make our students and staff so special! The month of October was full of our students giving, succeeding, and learning in multiple ways.

Auburn students are succeeding at reading! Several students have been invited by Librarian Carla Abbott to be designated as a Lexile Reader Leader, a program open to any student who has completed all 16 reading certificates in Accelerated Reader, and is on track to become Honors Readers as an eighth grader.

These students are as follows: fifth grade Jenna Coles and Mariah Perdue; sixth grade Calloway Bills, Jace Cross, Amber Hershberger, Laren Hines, Madelyn Hughes, Selynna Metcalfe, and Clacy White; and seventh grade Emily Anderson, Macon Barrow, Clara Bond, Lindsey Brinkley, Brianna Brooks, Hope Cassetty, Sydnee Claypool, Olivia Famer, Katie Fitzgerald, Henry Ham, Noah Hayes, Preston Hurt, Brooke Johnson, Kirsten Johnson, McKenzie Kempf, Lindsey Malott, Haley Manning, Kellie Proctor, Madison Simmons, Christian Snyder, Cassandra Townsend, Colton Watkins, Micah Windhaus, and Zachery Yates.

Congratulations to Lyndsey Gregory, Ashlynn Canler, Sarah Cassady, Daisy Epling, Korbin Scruggs, Aaliyah Townsend, Penelope Coles, Micah Page, and Serenity Metcalfe, who were selected to be part of the 2015-2016 Superintendent Teen Task Force, a district-wide eighth grade leadership group.

The Auburn Leadership Club will be helping St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for the second year, by sponsoring a student Math-a-thon. Leadership students will present the Math-a-thon information to all homeroom classes K-8, with the math-a-thon work being completed over Thanksgiving break. Students have set their goal to raise $2,000 by participation in the math-a-thon. If your business/workplace would like to sponsor a student/donate to the math-a-thon, please contact Sarah Hatton at 270-542-4181.

Fourth grade student Ella Burgess completed all the levels in reading program Lexia Core 5 as a fourth grade student.

The kindergarten classes enjoyed a walking tour of the Auburn community to culminate their Community Helpers unit in September. Sites visited include Auburn Banking Company, the Auburn Post Office, Auburn Fire Department, and Auburn City Park on Friday, Sept. 25.

Congratulations to our Logan County Middle School softball team members Abby Canler, Briley Robinson, Kaylin Page, Brooke Johnson, and Selynna Metcalfe for their win at the 13th District Middle School Softball Championship in Franklin on Sept. 25!

Sixth grade student Katie Crump received a $50 Visa Gift Card for an Honorable Mention in WarrenRECC’s Create the Cover Contest for their Annual Cookbook. The cookbook is free to all members and is given away at the WRECC offices at Christmas time. Katie’s drawing will be featured on the inside of the cookbook.

Is your Auburn student doing something noteworthy? Please send information (photos are also welcome!) to Sarah Hatton at Auburn Elementary School at sarah.hatton@logan.kyschools.us. We would love to recognize as many students as possible in future articles.
