RMS/RHS Academic Team News

Congratulations to RHS Academic Team members—Austin Coursey, Kyran Williams, Will Mullen and Phillip Wilkerson--for becoming National History Bowl Finalists this past weekend during competition in Owensboro. The team has also earned a spot at the national competition held in Washington, DC. Students were accompanied by RHS Academic Team Coach Jennifer Rogers.

The Russellville Middle School Academic Team will host the district academic team matches this week. Assessments will be administered on Tuesday at the school with competition finishing next Saturday. Participating teams include RMS, Adairville, Lewisburg, Olmstead and Chandlers. These teams will compete in Future Problem Solving events, written assessments and quick recall. The top five students in each written assessment area, the top two teams in FPS and the top two teams in quick recall will advance to the regional competition on Feb. 13.

Good luck to our middle school team members and Coach Tina Shoemake! If you would like to assist our team and coach during this event, please be sure to contact Mrs. Shoemake. Help will be needed with hospitality rooms and set-up for the day.

Commitment to Graduate

Our first Commitment to Graduate (C2G) event was quite a success recently with all of our high school groups. We asked each and every student to make both a verbal and written to commitment to graduate from high school, in addition to state their future goals and plans. We were very pleased at the number of students who know what their game plan is and how they are going to achieve it.  Some were not as certain, especially with the 9th and 10th grade groups, but that is to be expected at this point.

Our message to our students was simply this—whatever you set as your purposes or goals, we are here to help you obtain those! We are now planning our Parent Advisory Conference and will let everyone know as soon as we get that date finalized!

RHS Band News

Several students participated recently in the All District at Western Kentucky University. Those students who were invited to participate in this event are as follows:

RMS: Noah Brown, Allison Tatum, Laura Mullen and Brady West

RHS: Zach Baker, Brandon Johns, Kaylee Silvey, Adam Williams

Congratulations to these students on such a prestigious honor and for representing our school in this manner. RHS Band students will also be representing our program during the WKU Honors Band program!

RJSHS Archery Team

The archery team was in action again this past weekend. Congratulations to Blaine Holley, a 6thgrade member of the team, on his 3rd place finish at the Chandlers meet. The team will travel to Adairville this coming weekend for more archery action! Good luck to our archers and Coach Jeramy Rust!

RHS Basketball

Our girls and boys basketball teams hosted a district event Friday night with Franklin-Simpson. The girls lost a well fought game in overtime—thanks to Loreal Cheaney’s last second three-pointer during regular play. We are confident that they will avenge that loss with the next meet up between these two teams! The boys pulled out a solid victory, giving them an undefeated district record thus far! Our next boy/girl doubleheader is scheduled for Tuesday night with Muhlenberg and Butler County teams!
