The RMS Jr. Beta team traveled to Louisville this past week to participate in the Jr. Beta State Convention. The Quiz Bowl team, made up of John Carter Myers, Benjamin Slack, Chris Williams and Matthew Wilkerson, placed 2nd overall in the state and earned an automatic bid to the National Jr. Beta Convention in New Orleans this summer. Sponsor Andrew Mclean reports that all of our students worked diligently to complete their projects and participate in this event. Congratulations to all of our students who were able to participate in this annual event. We look forward to seeing more of their talents for next year! A special thanks to all of our parents and chaperones who were able to travel with our students, as well.
The RHS Academic Team completed regional Governor’s Cup events Saturday in Madisonville. The team placed 2nd overall, 2nd place in Quick Recall, 3rd place in Future Problem Solving, 1st place Science—Phillip Wilkerson and 1st place Social Studies—Brennan Hughes. The quick recall team and both Brennan and Phillip automatically advance to the state Governor’s Cup in March. Congratulations to our students and a special thank you to our Coach Jennifer Rogers and Mrs. Donna Wilkerson for all the work and time they dedicate to this team.
RMS/RHS Cheer Squads---via Mrs. Beverly York
Russellville Cheer and Tumble Towne held their first All-star and Cheer Competition Saturday.
We had seven surrounding teams, one individual performance , RMS, RHS cheerleaders and all of Tumble Towne teams perform.
Adairville Middle school took first place for medium size squad plus Grand Champion for highest score over all the teams competing today.
Lewisburg Middle won for small squad and Muhlenberg Middle won for Super large squad.
The RMS and RHS cheer squads both had excellent performances. We did not compete since we were the hosting teams.
The coaches would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all the parents that volunteered. Without them, today would not have been possible. We have had such great parent support this season and it is truly appreciated.
In addition to the parents, we also want to thank the Dowlens for grilling, Robbie McLellan for announcing and taking care of the music and Eddie Brooks for all his help over the last two days.
We are all hoping this will be a yearly event for years to come.
13th District Tournament
This week will certainly be a busy one with the Panthers hosting the district tournament.

*** For the district tournament next week we will NOT be able to accept staff name badges or season passes for admission into the tournament. The revenue from this tournament is split between all four schools. The determination of acceptable passes for admission is set by the 13th District officers, which has ruled out staff badges and season passes that are purchased at each individual school.
Congratulations to both Deandre Pedro Bradshaw and Loreal Cheaney for their recent accomplishments within the 4th Region. Loreal has been named to the 4th Region 3rd Team while Pedro has been named to the 4th Region 1st Team. We are very proud of these two Panthers and how they have represented our school during their seasons and on their respective teams.
RHS Swim News
The Swimming Panthers finished their season last weekend with a trip to the regional meet in Owensboro. Below you will find specific results, courtesy of Sherry Bouldin, for the event:
The Swimming Panthers closed out their season Saturday, February 13 at the Region 2 Swim Meet in Owensboro, Kentucky. What should have been a day of prelims on Friday with a follow up day of finals on Saturday morphed into a “timed finals” situation because of Friday’s snow.
The girls’ relay team comprised of Morgan Bryant, Katie Paul, Katie Ray Holloman, and Kate Bouldin swam in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. The girls’ team placed 14th (2:27.29) in the medley and 13th (2:06.24) in the freestyle – both times were a season best for them. Individual results are below.

According to Coach Toni Hall, “Every swimmer had their personal best times yesterday and I’m very proud of them. They have worked so hard all season long.”
It should be noted that Ben Slack did not get to swim on Saturday as he had an obligation to serve the academic team at the Regional Governor’s Cup. Slack would have swam the prelims on Friday had the regional swim meet not been cancelled that day. From what we understand, Ben represented well! He will be going on to the state academic competition next month. Way to go Ben!
Team members and Coach Toni Hall should be commended on an amazing season. They’ve spent the better part of the last five months in each other’s back pockets, working so hard to improve each day. In addition to keeping up with an intense practice schedule, all of the swimmers juggled the responsibilities of keeping their grades up, family life, and other extracurricular activities. Congratulations on a job well done Toni Hall – and to your swimmers as well.
Russellville Archery
The archery team left bright and early yesterday morning to compete in two different tournaments—one in Muhlenberg County and one in Madisonville. The team put up a score of 2,888 at Muhlenberg North and a score of 2,885 at the West Kentucky Archery Center for the Christ the King tournament. The archery season continues with a trip to the Todd County tournament of March 18 and students in grades 7-12 will travel on March 19 to the KHSAA Region 2 tournament.
Coach Jeramy Rust announced yesterday that there will not be any after school practices this week due to the district tournament except for Thursday evening at the Hunter’s Den to prepare for the Lewisburg match on Saturday morning!
These kids have worked and competed nearly every weekend for quite some time now, in addition to participating in other extracurricular activities. We greatly appreciate all that they put into becoming the best archery team around!! Thanks to Coach Rust for the time he puts in to helping them accomplish this goal.
