In case you were wondering, yes, Logan has got talent - quiet a lot of it, actually. Anyone who was privileged to attend the 4th Annual Logan's Got Talent showcase at the Historic Logan County Courthouse on March 25 can vouch for that fact.
The standing-room-only ground was treated to a wide array of acts, ranging from bluegrass pickers to opera singers, ballet dancers to jump rope performers, harmonica instrumentalists to gymnasts. There was even a magician and a ukulele player, all for the rock-bottom price of just $5 per person.
Special guests the Stevenson Power Jumpers (Keela Skaggs, sponsor) kicked off the evening, followed by an evening of entertainment by the varied and very talented acts selected by an out-of-town panel of judges during an audition process earlier in the week. Vocalist/guitarist Jaclyn Batchelor performed “It is Well;” vocalist Harley Robertson performed “If We’re Honest;” ballerina Rebekah Holt danced to “Blue Bird” from Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty;” vocalist/ukulele player Lydia Manley sang “Can’t Help Falling in Love;” and vocalist Russ Funk sang “The King of the Mountain.”
During intermission, guest performers Warren David Wright and Joe Hughes performed a couple of bluegrass numbers, including "Wabash Cannonball" and "Rocky Top."
The show then resumed with Nick Posey performing ”I’ll Be Seeing You” on the harmonica, along with a dedication of the song to his family. The GymKatz of Logan County Gymnastics (Lisa Bunce, sponsor) were up next, impressing the crowd with their energetic routine.
The evening was rounded out with vocalists Emily Holt singing “Blessings;” Hannah Lawrence singing “O Mio Babbino Caro;" Bre Barnes singing “From a Table Away;” and duo Karyn Kutzman and Jamie Tyler performing an “A Capella Alternative Pop."
Magician Rae Ann Whitley then took the stage, followed by the vocal/musicians trio of Jackie Johnson, Jordan Latham, and Kaleb O’Dell, who ended the evening with “God of the City.”
Event organizer, April Kutzman of the Russellville Arts Council, sends a A BIG THANKS to the judges who assisted with the audition process, Beverly and Kevin Hall (Todd County) and Sean Mooningham (Muhlenberg/Hopkins)! Thanks also to Clay Bilyeu, who ran the sound equipment and also sang "Buy me a Boat" as one of the acts was setting up; Eddie Brooks, who assisted with set up; and everyone in the community who came out and supported the show.
