Celebration of Freedom will be held at Logan County Historic Courthouse Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m.

The citizens of Logan County will have the opportunity to celebrate the 225th Anniversary of Kentucky as the Fifteen State to join the Union and Logan County became a County in 1792. It was also the mother county from which about 28 counties were formed from its original size that comprised most of western Kentucky. The program will feature a 25-member choir and about seven member stage band, which will provide several gospel and patriotic numbers.

Also an impressive Color Guard and about 20 flag bearers will present colorful flags from the U.S. Armed Forces and SAR Unit, whose flags represent several Militia units across the original Thirteen Colonies. It will show how a feeling of Independence and

Freedom spread across our nation. They will be carried by the Logan County JROTC, Trigg County SAR Chapter members and local citizens representing various facets of our society.

Former Logan County High School history teacher Dwight Cockrill will also address the audience at the Celebration event. Cockrill will be speaking about "the price of freedom." He was also the former Logan County Waste Coordinator for a number of years.

Several reenactors in various historical and period dress are expected to attend the Event in their favorite costumes. They will be part of the audience seated in the upper courtroom. We encourage folks attending to get in the spirit of freedom and wear clothes of your favorite time period.

In the lobby, several booths and tables are expected to be set up selling books, tee shirts, ornaments, coins and others displaying various periodic articles and material. The crowd will be allowed upstairs after the color guard has significant time to practice their routine.

The Logan County Library will have a couple programs with Eddie Price giving a review of one of his children history books at 9 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., SAR members Geoff Baggett and Steve Mallory will give a historical demonstration of a trunk filled with American Revolution War period examples of articles that might be carried by a colony militia soldier while serving in his military unit. The trunk may contain a flintlock rifle, powder horn, hunting knife, belt pouches, ammo balls, personal needs, uniform and other clothes. Several examples of food carried, cooking utensils, etc. and many other objects will be discussed to the audience of different ages.
