The unprecedented success of our students in extracurricular activities (sports, band, JROTC, clubs, etc.) paired with our tradition of academic excellence has contributed to school spirit being at an impressively high level. We appreciate the extra work that the coaches, sponsors, and advisors put in to ensure our students have the best possible experiences.

We at LCHS would like to thank our entire community for its continued support of our efforts.

Enjoy the weekend.

Calendar notes

LCHS students will not attend school Monday, Nov. 6 as the teachers have a data day.

LCHS students will dismiss Friday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. so LCHS teachers can meet with K-8 teachers for vertical planning.

Football

The Cougars will be hosting the first-ever playoff game on the campus of LCHS tonight versus Warren Central at 7 p.m. The LCHS Ambassadors will be set up outside the gates collecting coats for those in need if you would like to donate.

JROTC (from Sgt. Major Brockman)

Since the beginning of school the Raider team from JROTC has competed in four separate events. They have traveled to Clarkrange, Tenn. (360 miles round trip), to Fairview, Tenn. (160 miles round trip), APSU (100 miles round trip) and Graves County (240 miles round trip). They have made the trophy dash at each event and finished third overall at APSU against 18 teams and first overall at Graves County against 16 teams, finishing 24 minutes ahead of the closest team. An email from the host at Graves County said a good Raider team should be able to finish the course in 70 minutes. Our team did it in 54.

This weekend is number five. They will travel to Molena, Ga. (720 miles round trip) to compete in the Raider Nationals against teams from all over the US and JROTC units from all services. At each competition they have represented LCHS with great pride and courage. They have worked very hard this year for their success.

Band (from Mr. David Dayton)

This past weekend the LCHS Cougar Band competed in the KMEA Class 4A State Semi-Finals Competition at South Oldham HS. The Cougar Band placed 10th.  This is the highest the LCHS Cougar Band has placed since 2008.  We are very proud of the students’ hard work and commitment to move into the top 10 in Class 4A. The students of the LCHS Cougar Band represented themselves, their ensemble, their school, and their community in a positive, mature, and professional manner.

If you see these students in your classrooms, in the halls, or out and about, please congratulate them on a job well done.  I am very proud of each and every one of them.

We will be performing our show “Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue Shades” this Friday night during halftime of the LCHS Cougar Football team’s playoff game vs. Warren Central!  We hope you will come out and support your Marching Cougars and help us cheer on our Football Cougars!
