Logan superintendent explains snow days, NTI days

I hope this finds everyone in your home safe and warm! We’ll continue to monitor the weather and the roads and hope to make a decision each day no later than 5 p.m. I know this is important (when the weather allows us) because many of you have to find child care and have other challenges that hinge upon our decision to have or not have school.

A few thoughts to share with you all on NTI days.

• Tuesday, Jan. 15, was day number two NTI (remember the Solar Eclipse was NTI day number 1)

• When we have an “NTI” day it will say it in the automated phone message from the district, should be displayed on the television station (with NTI day and what #) and I will Tweet, Instagram and Facebook it as well.

• If it doesn’t say “NTI” on the automated message, television, or in my Tweet, Instagram or Facebook post it will just be a missed day of school.

• It is not my preference to have an “NTI” day two days in a row. Why? Many times students aren’t able to work on the assignments and I don’t want the work to pile up. I also don’t believe it’s best practice for instruction to use those days consecutively.

• In the end we may end up at the same place five NTI days and five days to make-up. I just believe it’s best not to bunch them together.

• Another item is we had several students out last week with flu (but not enough to close school, but several out) and if we pile on two to three (or more days on top of that) days in addition to last week’s work missed it would be really tough for many of our students/families.

• There’s also some flexibility in our schedule where we may be able to move some things around as well.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts and I hope each of you have some fun in the snow with your children! But please be safe and we’ll keep you in the loop.
