Prom

Prom will be this Saturday from 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. It will be held in the deGraffenried lobby. Prom will be one hour later than normally scheduled to allow for members of the HS Softball team to return from their tournament in Owensboro where they will be competing for the All A State Championship.

STAR Testing Final Round of Testing

This week, students will take their final STAR test of the school year in the areas of reading and math. Student scores on this final test will be used for evaluation purposes of student progress as well as for scheduling purposes for the 2018-19 school year.

Special Olympics

Several Russellville students traveled to Bowling Green High School this past Saturday to compete in the Regional Special Olympics competition. Accompanied by District Director of Special Education Linda Shelton and RJSHS Ffaculty members Tracy Thomas, Lisa Meacham and Maydeen Bailey, RJSHS students competed in events such as the 400 meter run/walk, softball toss, sprints, and relays. The event was a tremendous success and an opportunity for RJSHS students to display their skills before a large crowd of cheering fans.

Sports Happenings

The Kelly Russell Classic

Area teams descended on the Russellville softball and baseball fields this past weekend as the Kelly Russell Classic took center stage. Organized by local alumni and held in honor of the late Kelly Russell, the tournament, which has become a staple of Russellville athletics, fell under clear skies and beautiful weather. The Softball team won their two games, defeating Whitesville Trinity and Murray High School while the boys dropped a tough one to visiting Warren Central.

Softball

This week, softball travels to Glasgow on Monday, hosts Todd Central on Tuesday, Barren County on Thursday and Monroe County on Friday.

On Saturday, the Lady Panthers travel to Owensboro where they enter pool play for the All A State Tournament. The Lady Panthers play three games on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Caldwell County, and then again at 2 p.m. against an opponent to be determined and then close out the day against another opponent to be determined at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Panthers are members of Pool C, one of four Pools of play in the tournament. The Pool C winner and runner up advance to Sunday where teams will play in single elimination style play for the State Championship.

Tennis

Russellville Tennis welcomes Allen County on Tuesday and Butler County on Thursday.

From the past week, Tennis has some great individual and team performances:

Fernanda Rodriguez and Jayce Buchner won their match against Warren Central

Fraley Watkins won her match against Franklin Simpson

Jayce Buchner won her singles match against Franklin Simpson

Jacob Naylor won 8-0 against Warren Central as well as 8-6 over Franklin Simpson

Layne Steele won 8-6 against Warren Central

Ben Slack won his match against Warren Central

Javier Canales and Shaun Steele won their doubles match over Barren County as well as over Warren Central

Graciann Beard and Korissa Holloman won their doubles match this week.

Makiyah Morrow and My Tran won their doubles match this week.

Baseball

The RHS Baseball team travels to Logan County on Tuesday and then to Allen County on Thursday.

The RMS Baseball team battled Logan County Middle this week, but fell 2-1 in a game that featured much of the young talent for the Panthers. Many of the RMS Panthers have been asked to do double duty this year, often playing up to the varsity HS level.

This week, the RMS Panthers travel to Heritage Christian on Monday, then host Todd County on Thursday and Lyon County on Saturday.

Soccer

RHS and RMS Soccer off season workouts are now in full swing. This will be for girls and boys players. Anyone interested in knowing more may contact Coach Rust at:

Track

Russellville Track travels to Bowling Green on Thursday.

Football

Football Spring Practice is in full swing under new Head Coach Mikie Benton. The Panthers share quite a few players with Spring sports but that hasn’t stopped them from getting out and getting in helmets this Spring. This week, the Panthers will go on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday schedule.
