Auburn Health Care rang with Christmas carols on Dec. 7, as Tiger Leaders visited to spread holiday cheer and small gifts, before completing a holiday craft with residents. As Auburn School prepares our students for success beyond the walls of the school, we are focused on developing students who exemplify our graduate profile, including the ability to communicate and collaborate with others.

Student leadership is evident each day throughout Auburn School. Kindergarten through fifth grade students who desire to serve the school in a leadership role were eligible to join Tiger Leadership during open signups in the fall, and request a staff member recommendation to sponsor their enrollment. Middle school students elected their own classroom representatives to Tiger Student Council during fall elections.

Students have been active in creating, planning, and executing a variety of service and leadership activities over the last several weeks to support the school, the Auburn community, and outside organizations. Tiger Leaders, under the guidance of sponsors Mrs. Nicki Buchanon and Mrs. Hope Strode, promoted a candy drive to collect 120 pounds of Halloween candy to donate to Treats for Troops, an outside organization providing candy to military service members overseas.

Student Council members, along with sponsor Mrs. Stephanie Wheeldon, developed a Veterans Day program, honoring over 30 veterans from the Auburn community, and featuring student-led performances. Both organizations assisted Auburn School’s chapter of Kentucky Youth Assembly with collection of over 1200 canned food items for needy families in our community during their Thanksgiving Food Drive.

As the year wound to a close, students were already envisioning new ways they can serve our school and community. From student buddy reading to spreading acts of love and kindness throughout February, Auburn School student leaders will be paving the way for service and leadership!
