Recently, Mindy Key from Russellville READs visited Guiding Light Preschool for some “Pete The Cat” math fun! This effort is part of the Russellville READs 2.0 grant Russellville Independent School District received in 2018.

Guiding Light has been a community partner since our very first READs grant in 2016.

"Nita Collins, their preschool teacher, is a joy to work with and a wonderful educator," said Mrs. Key. “Ms. Nita is a cornerstone at Guiding Light, and the students love her.”

Every week, Russellville READs partners together with Guiding Light and brings a wonderful literacy-rich experience for the students. This partnership has been a wonderful collaborative between our School District and the private childcare.

On this particular day, “Pete The Cat” made an appearance, and he is a class favorite at GLP. We read the story, Pete The Cat’s 12 Groovy Days of Christmas, and had fun with math by sorting and making patterns. Students built a graduating pattern with uni-fix cubes in a fun way to retell the story.  They also received their very own hardback copy for their classroom library.

Key said, “We are very thankful for this community partnership, and I look forward to serving Guiding Light in 2020!”
