The Russellville Independent School District will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Program on Friday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. in the deGraffereid Auditorium. Students in grades 4–12 will attend the program, and many students will also participate as performers.

This year’s theme is “We Are Living the Dream.” One of the district’s strategic pillars is Student-Centered Experiences, and this program reflects that commitment by giving students an active role. Participants will showcase their talents through singing, skits, instrumental performances, and other presentations of their choosing.

The district began hosting its own Martin Luther King Jr. program last school year to highlight student voice and creativity while honoring Dr. King’s legacy and his impact on our country.

A guest speaker will also be part of the program. That will be Russellville’s new girls basketball coach, Jermaine Savage, who is also a retired state police detective.

Students from Stevenson Elementary School will be bused to Russellville High School for the event. In addition, high school students will visit Stevenson Elementary to read Martin Luther King Jr. books to students in grades K–3. Every student will receive a Martin Luther King Jr. book to take home, with selections determined by grade level.

There will be no school on Monday, Jan. 19, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
