The Great Mix-Up will be hosted by Post Oak Baptist Church Tuesday evening from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the church in the Brookhaven subdivision. Cougars will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 2 as they will host Allen County-Scottsville in the first round of the State Playoffs with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Trunk or Treat will be offered at Crittenden Drive Church of Christ Saturday from 5-7 p.m. People from the congregation will have treats in their trunks in the parking lot near Russellville Christian School. Food will also be available, including soup, sandwiches and chips. The public is welcome.

Chili Cook-Off at Adairville to raise

funds for Vandy Children's Hospital

Grace Ann’s Christmas Wish Chili Cook-Off hosted by Alice Ann Warren will be held this Saturday at Adairville Elementary School from 4:30-8:30 p.m. A meal of chili, drink and dessert will cost $5. A bake sale and auction will also be held. Proceeds will be used to purchase items to donate to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Cougars win 28-0, finish regular season 9-1

The Logan County Cougars won 28-0 at Todd Central Thursday evening. Gary Hardy finished with 175 yards rushing. Nate Woodall threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns, two of them to Maurice Gordon. The defense held the Rebels to 63 total yards. The Cougars finish the regular season 9-1 and have won 21 of their last 23 games. They open Class 4A playoff action next week against visiting Allen County-Scottsville.

Cougars lead Todd 28-0

The Logan County Cougars lead 28-0 after three quarters on a rainy night at Todd Central High School. Coach Todd Adler's team jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter but has had trouble scoring ever since. Nate Woodall threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and added a third TD pass in the third quarter. Maurice Gordon has caught two of them and Dontavius Blann an 86-yarder. Gary Hardy ran for 81 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Lucas Arevalo has kicked four extra points. The defense has been superb for the Cougars.

Logan's Karrah Cron, Coach Lyne

earn top regional honors

When the regional volleyball awards were announced recently, it was a sweep for the Logan County Lady Cougars. Senior Karrah Cron was named Player of the Year and Steven Lyne Coach of the Year. The Lady Cougars won their 18^th straight district championship and reached the regional semifinals. Cron recorded these statistics: 950 Attacks, 431 Serves Returned, 385 Kills, 337 Digs, 251 Points on Serve, 104 Aces, 91.4 Serving %, 55 Assists, 18 Blocks. The Lady Cougars put together a 25-13 record, second in the region only to champion Greenwood. This is the third Fourth Region Coach of the Year award for Lyne, who has been on the staff ever since the team was organized. Cron joins former Lady Cougars Rachyl Miller in 2013 and Kerra Cornish last year in earning that honor.

The Logan County Farmers' Market will be open Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-noon. Many vegetables are still available, as are pumpkins and gourds. This and next Saturday are the last two days to use Senior Vouchers and WIC Vouchers this season.

Panthers finish 2nd in district

Russellville made a late comeback Friday after trailing heavily favored visiting Crittenden County 28-0, but fell 28-12 to the Rockets on a rainy Senior Night at Rhea Stadium. Coach Mikie Benton's team finished second in their Class 1A District and will host a first-round game in the playoffs in two weeks.

Cougars lead Lakers 30-7

Despite playing in the rain and without their regular quarterback, the Logan County Cougars put together a dominant second quarter on the way to a 30-7 halftime lead at Calloway County Friday. Nate Woodall is quarterbacking the team as Tyler Ezell lets his injured foot recuperate. He completed touchdown passes to Dontavius Blann & Anthony Woodard.  Also scoring touchdowns in the first half were Carson Bradley & Gary Hardy on the ground. Lucas Arevalo kicked a 32-yard field goal and three extra points.

Funeral services tomorrow

 for Chief Matthew Humble

Funeral services for Guthrie Police Chief Matthew Humble of Russellville will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Walnut Grove Parkside Church in Russellville with Bro. Mike Humble, Janice Humble, Jason Humble and Dr. Brian Humble officiating and burial to follow in the Stevenson Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the funeral time. An outstanding athlete at Russellville High School in the late nineties, he was a popular and respected officer wherever he served. Much of the community has been involved in supporting and praying for the Humble family since his inoperable cancer was detected.

Girls soccer region postponed

Opening round games in the Fourth Region Girls Soccer Tournament tonight have been postponed until Tuesday because of heavy rains, host Barren County Athletic Director Warren Cunningham has announced. That means 13th District champion Logan County won't play until Wednesday's semifinals' second game against the first-round winner between Greenwood and Barren County. Panthers crush Fulton in Tobacco Bowl

The Russellville Panthers crushed visiting Fulton City 48-8 Saturday in the 2018 version of the Tobacco Bowl to clinch a home field playoff game in the Class 1A playoffs. Quarterback Jacob Naylor complete 6 of 9 passes for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns, all in the first half. Two of the TD passes were to freshman Lennon Ries with the other going to Ryan Flores. Naylor also threw to Edward Barber for 46 yards, Chevis Elliott for 45 yards and Jaquis Todd for11. Coach Mike Benton’s team ran only 13 rushing plays, but picked up 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. Barber gained 53 yards on 3 carries, one of them for a score. Flores ran once for 29 yards and the game’s first TD. Jovari Gamble added the third score as part of his 27 yards. The seventh touchdown came on a 34-yard interception return by Jackson Hampton. Hunter McDowell connected on his first six conversion kicks before missing the seventh. The Panther defense held the Bulldogs to a negative nine yards rushing in the first half.

Cougars surrender lead,

see winning streaks end

The streaks have ended! Plagued by penalties and fumbles, the Logan County Cougars surrendered a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter and fell 21-17 to district champion Madisonville-North Hopkins during Senior Night at LCHS. The Cougars led 17-7 midway through the fourth quarter and Gary Hardy picked up an apparent first down near midfield. But one of the Cougars’ many unnecessary penalties nullified the play. When Coach Todd Adler decided to go for it on fourth down, backfield blocking broke down and Hardy, who ran for over 100 yards, was tackled for a loss. Then Cougar return man Third Bell fumbled the ball away at the Logan six. A little over a minute later, M-NH took the lead. Logan quarterback Tyler Ezell passed for over 200 yards, Chandler Silvey caught six passes, Anthony Woodard made huge plays on both sides of the ball, kicker Luis Arevalo was on target all night, and the Cougars still saw their undefeated streak end at seven games and their consecutive regular season wins top out at 18 games. The loss probably means the Cougars will finish second in the district and have to face defending state champion Franklin-Simpson on the road in the regional semifinals.

Cougars lead Maroons 17-7 in third

Playing the best team on their schedule on Senior Night, the undefeated Logan County Cougars lead a super Madisonville-North Hardin team 17-7 midway through the third quarter. The Maroons marched 71 yards on their opening possession to take a 7-0 lead that lasted until 2:14 remaining in the half when Logan quarterback Tyler Ezell scored from the one. Luis Arevalo tied the score on the first of his three successful kicks. Ezell completed key passes to Chandler Silvey and Reggie Powell, and a 34-yard run by Gary Hardy contributed to that score. After a Cougar interception by Powell, the Cougars scored again on a 35-yard pass from Ezell to Anthony Woodard. Logan led 14-7 at the half. The Cougars maintained possession for over five minutes to start the second half, culminating in a 34-yard field goal by Arevalo. The game is being carried on all of WRUS’ platforms.

Lady Cougars extend volleyball

district streaks, dominance

When the Logan County Lady Cougars beat both Todd Central and Franklin-Simpson to win the 13^th District Volleyball Tournament Tuesday, eye-popping streaks continued. It was their 16^{th consecutive} district championship, 17^th straight regional berth, 118^th straight district match won, and 278^th consecutive district game won. They have not lost a district championship since 2002, a district match since Aug. 17, 2004 and a district game since Sept. 11, 2004. In fact, they have lost only three games against Russellville, Todd and F-S since the 13^th District was created in 2003. Coach Steven Lyne’s team now awaits its regional draw.

Logan, F-S to meet in both soccer finals

Logan County and Franklin-Simpson will meet in both 13th District Soccer championship matches tonight. Both LCHS teams are 7-0 in district matches this season. Coach Barry McReynolds' Lady Cougars shut out Russellville 7-0 in Tuesday's semifinals. It was the first-ever district match for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Cougars are 11-6 overall. Franklin edged Todd Central 3-2. The Lady Cats are 7-11 overall. That match begins at 5:30 today. Coach Hunt McCollum's Cougars (9-6) beat Todd Central 6-0 Tuesday. Franklin (7-9) ended one of Russellville's best seasons in many years by a 4-0 count. The boys championship match starts at 7:30.

Emergency Services Awareness

Event to be presented Monday
An Emergency Services Awareness Event will be held at the Russellville City Fire Department near McDonald’s in Russellville from 5-7 p.m. Fire trucks, a rescue helicopter and ambulances will be on display. Jax the K-9 will be present along with emergency services personnel. Tours of the fire department will be offered. This is a Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival event.

Ezell-less Cougars hold on

for 10-6 win at Hopkinsville

Despite a second quarter injury to star quarterback Tyler Ezell, the Logan County Cougars held on for a 10-6 district win at Hopkinsville Friday. The Cougars were leading 7-3 on a 39-yard counter by Maurice Gordon capped by a Lucas Arevalo extra point kick. When Ezell went down, the Cougar offense was stagnant for several possessions but came to life when his backup, Nate Woodall, completed much-needed passes to Anthony Woodard & Jaden Sells. Arevalo built the lead to four on a 41-yard field goal with 3:18 remaining. Caden McKinnis, Ethan Steenbergen & Collier Kempf recorded sacks late in the game, Damon Stephens made a key fumble recovery, and Ethan Haley punted to the Tigers' six-inch line. The Cougars committed some errors and were penalized for them and also for some that Coach Todd Adler doesn't believe were justified. Logan is now 7-0 overall, 2-0 in the district and almost certainly assured a home game to start the playoffs. This was the 18th straight regular season win for Adler and his team.
