Cougars hold off Todd surge

to seal tie for number 1 seed

Trailing 51-24 at the half, the Todd Central Rebels made an impressive run against the visiting Logan County Cougars Thursday before Logan regrouped to win 80-70. The Rebels had gone on a 16-1 run for most of the third quarter before Logan's Tommy Krohn hit a shot at the buzzer to make the Cougar lead 61-48 going into the final quarter. Todd kept clawing back. With Deonte Toliver hitting from everywhere and Clayte Weathers getting two quick buckets, the Rebels pulled to within seven. Krohn responded with a goal, but big John Calvary hit a shot to make Logan's lead just 72-67. But Logan's Kelby Epley hit some big free throws, and Dalton Thompson hit a pair of layups against Todd's press to seal the Cougars' 18th win in 22 starts. Krohn finished with 24 points, Epley 19, Anthony Woodard 12, Thompson 10 and Third Bell9. Toliver scored 22 for Todd, Calvary had 17 and Preston Moore 11. If Russellville wins at Franklin-Simpson Friday night, the Cougars will be the top seed. An F-S win would create a tie and a coin flip for the number one seed.

Hale finished with 16 points while Paige Vanzant & Kennedy Nichols added 10 each and Bingham 7. Amy Brumfield scored almost half the home team's points, tying Hale for game honors with 16. With the win, Coach Finley Baird's team improved its district record to 5-1, clinching a tie for the top seed.
