Russellville Jr./Sr. High School has functioned as one school under one principal and two assistant principals in recent years, but they will be recognized separately as Russellville Middle School and Russellville High School effective July 1. They, of course, will continue to adjoin each other and share some of the same facilities.
On Monday, Russellville Independent Schools Superintendent Bart Flener officially announced Cameron Jackson as the new principal for the Russellville Middle School, beginning this fall with the 2019-20 school year.
Cameron Jackson has served as one of the assistant principals for the Russellville Junior/ Senior High for the last two years under the direction of principal Ben Bruni. Before coming to Russellville Independent Schools as an administrator, Cameron served as a special education teacher for 10 years at Campbellsville Independent and Berea Independent.
Jackson has also served on a school SBDM Council, volunteered his time as a counselor with the local YMCA, served as an assistant athletic director, and been an active participant in Title IX reform.
In addition to his classroom experience, “Coach” Jackson has also served as a head girls varsity basketball coach (Campbellsville HS) and a head boys varsity basketball coach (Berea HS). He currently serves as the head girls’ varsity basketball coach for the Russellville High School Lady Panthers.
Regarding Jackson's leadership, Superintendent Bart Flener says, “Mr. Jackson has worked tirelessly with student and adult team members to create win-win situations. His strengths as a forward-thinking leader and innovative problem solver make him the right fit for leadership in this new position.
“We are excited about the future for Russellville Middle School student and adult team members with Mr. Jackson at the helm. We believe in his ability to ‘Equip Panthers...For Life!’”
Jackson has his Rank I in Administrative Leadership from Union College as well as a Master’s in Special Education from Union College. Lastly, he has a bachelors in Sociology from Kentucky State University.
Cameron and his wife April recently became first-time parents to Emmanuel, a six-month-old boy.
RHS Principal Ben Bruni says, “Mr. Jackson has been an exceptional leader at Russellville Junior-Senior High School these past two years. His command of student respect and ability to develop meaningful relationships with faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members is a strength that I truly believe will allow him to thrive and succeed in his new role.
RHS senior Matthew Williams has written, “The new principal is someone whose area of expertise doesn’t just excel with the students, but with teachers, staff, and parents. He is someone that has the ability to bring out the potential in young people.”
Superintendent Flener concluded, “While we attempt to close the 2018-19 school year in fine fashion, we are certainly looking forward to the 2019-2020 with excitement for all the things Mr. Jackson will bring to our Russellville Middle School team.”
