Softball Clash postponed

Because of the sudden death of Ashley 'Cocoa' Kees, today's scheduled Russellville-at-Logan County softball Clash of the Cats has been postponed until next Wednesday, May 8, LCHS Athletic Director Greg Howard has announced. Mrs. Kees was the mother of Lady Panther Amiyah Collier, the aunt of teammate Jaylah Kees and an enthusiastic leader of athletics at her alma mater. Naylor to play in Super 8 tennis

Russellville senior Jacob Naylor is well known fro his basketball and football skills, but he's also a talented tennis player. He will be playing in the Super Singles Tournament (Top 8 players in Region 4) this weekend. His dad/ coach Calvin Naylor says, "He will have a tough first game as he plays against two time region 4 singles champion Jacks Lancaster."

On Saturday, the deGraffenried Chorale to present 40thanniversary concert at the Historic Logan County Courthouse, beginning at 7 p.m. Mary Beth Dowden is the director and Susan Fox the accompanist. The theme is “Love, lost and Found, 40 Years of Singing.”

Auburn Fire's Grand Re-opening, Ribbon Cutting set April 28

A Grand Re-opening for the Auburn Fire Department will be held in its new headquarters at 114 East Main Street in the old Howlett Chevrolet building on Sunday, April 28 from 2:30-4 p.m. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting at 3. The public is welcome to attend.

Lady Cougars win, aid

opponents' fundraiser

Not only did the Logan County Lady Cougars raise their softball record to 13-3 Tuesday with a 12-5 win at Muhlenberg County, but Coach Mark Wood's team also helped with fundraising. Athletic Director Greg Howard says: Flexing for Brayden. When we found out Muhlenberg County was doing a fundraiser for one of their students. Our softball team was all in. At the game tonight, both teams battled it out on the diamond as Brayden battles it out in his hospital bed. Brayden recently had a heart transplant and his family is needing financial support. No gate was collected tonight, but donations were accepted. LC softball team pitched in and gave a check to help cover expenses. Way to go Lady Cougars and coaches!

Hannah Cron to sign with KCU

Logan County High School volleyball player Hannah Cron will sign with Kentucky Christian University to play volleyball today, Monday at the Logan County CTC building at 3:30 p.m. Her twin sister Karrah previously signed to played for Kentucky Wesleyan College.

From Adam Webster: At Logan County High School on Thursday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m., students from both the US History and World History classes will be presenting "A Night At The Museum." This will be a display of learning using historical characters, exhibits, and interactive technology to give visitors an insight into events of the past. The students have been working on this for months and have put a tremendous amount of effort into their presentations.

Culvert on Gordonsville Road

to be replaced next week

From Wes Watt of the Department of Highways: KY 1151 Gordonsville Road at mile point 6.4 will close at mile point 6.4 on April 23 and April 24 if weather allows for crews to replace a large culvert. Message boards are in place to inform motorists about the closure. We expect to have the roadway reopen the afternoon of April 24.

From Greg Owens: Due to the rainy forecast and field conditions we have no choice but to cancel the Kelly Russell Classic. Special thanks to Coach Tyler Meacham and Coach Ryan Davenport for all they have done to get things ready. The unveiling of our new sign will go on as planned. Jo Anne Russell Bennett will be here for the unveiling of this awesome tribute. Many thanks to the RHS Class of 1974, Kelly's teammates and Billy Costello for making this happen. It begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. and the Panther Cougar Alumni Baseball game will be rescheduled. For those that ordered tee shirts, Diane Walker will be at the field Saturday morning at 10 to give those out. Kelby Epley to sign with Thomas More

Standout Logan County Cougar basketball long-range shooter Kelby Epley will sign to play basketball for Thomas More College in Northern Kentucky Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Logan Career & Technical Center. The public is invited. Thomas More plays in the American Collegiate Athletic Association, an NCAA Division III conference formed in 2017. If he plays for the Saints, Epley will become just the fourth Cougar in the school's 36-year history to play NCAA basketball. The other three are Fred Tisdale, Adonis Hart & Trey Turner.

Russellville Rural Fire

Fund Raiser set Saturday

Russellville Rural Fire Department will hold its annual fund raiser this Saturday, April 20, at the Logan County Extension Office, beginning at 5 p.m. Door prizes, auction items and a grand prize of $300 will be offered. A $7 pork tenderloin meal or a $4 hot dog meal will be available. Clay Bilyeu will provide the entertainment.

Adairville Market Days to begin

Beginning Wednesday, vendors will be set up on the Adairville Town Square to sell a variety of items, including produce when it is season along with crafts and baked goods. Adairville Market Days will be held Wednesday afternoons and all day on Saturdays. Wednesday hours are noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April 15-Nov. 15. RHS Comic Book Night Thursday

From Brandy West: This Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the RHS Book Club along with the help of the middle school Book Clubs will be hosting a Comic Book Night at the new RHS R21C Center, located beside the high school. This event is open to the public, ages ranging from pre-k to teens. There are various games and literacy activities planned, ranging from obstacles courses to painting your own hero! Free grilled hot dogs, chips, drinks, and superhero themed snacks will be provided for the students and families. There will also be book giveaways! Each student will get to choose two books to purchase from our graphic novel/comic book list. The RHS Bookmobile will be setup in the parking lot for families to explore. We encourage everyone to dress up as your favorite hero and the best costume will win a grand prize! A free, public Resource Fair will be held at Logan County Public Library Wednesday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Job information will be available from Kentucky Career Center, Kentucky National Guard and Logan County Adult Education. Area colleges will also be present. Financial aid information for colleges will also be available. The event is sponsored by the Educational Opportunity Center headquartered at WKU.

Coach Kelley Jordan to meet

with LCHS golfers Thursday

There will be a meeting for any Logan County student who is interested in playing golf for this upcoming season on Thursday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the LCTC. All returning players should be there unless they are involved in a spring sport. Former Cougar multi-sport standout Kelley Jordan will be introduced as the program's new coach, as "well as going over potential schedules and fundraising material for this upcoming season. "We will also discuss the move to form a booster club," says Athletic Director Greg Howard.

From Logan County Republican Chairman Barry Kennedy: The 2019 Logan County Lincoln Day Dinner will be on Saturday, April 13, at the Historic Logan County Courthouse. The Logan Conservation Districts will be giving out free tree seedlings Wednesday morning beginning at 8. Each bag will contain 4-5 trees of the same species, which this year include Eastern Redbud, Silky Dogwood, Persimmon, Willow Oak, White Oak, Black Walnut, and Pecan. Each person may select a total of three bags.

Services planned for former Russellville Mayor Shirlee Yassney

Funeral services for former Russellville Mayor Shirlee Yassney will be held at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home in Russellville at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be held on Monday night from 5-8 and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be a Pea Ridge cemetery in Todd County. Lady Cougars win big at region

The Logan County Lady Cougars breezed to a 12-2 win over Metcalfe County in the Fourth Region Tournament Monday at WKU's Softball Field. LCHS will play South Warren, which crushed Allen County-Scottsville 16-1 in the final game of the day. That game is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday. 13th District runner-up Franklin-Simpson also advanced, beating Barren County 7-3. The Lady Cats will meet Warren East, which rolled over Russell County 18-0, in the first semifinal. The Cougar baseball team's season ended with a 10-0 loss to Bowling Green. In another 13th-14th District matchup, South Warren edged Franklin 2-0.

Logan softball, F-S baseball win district titles

Logan County and Franklin-Simpson split district diamond titles Tuesday night at LCHS. Coach Mark Wood's Lady Cougars edged the Lady Cats 5-4 in the softball championship game. F-S, which shut out the Cougars 1-0 a couple of weeks ago, won big this time by an 11-4 count. Watch The Loo for details.

Lady Cougars earn 4th Region honors

Five Logan County Lady Cougars have been honored as Fourth Region Softball All-Stars, and they are all underclassmen. Junior Brea Croslin was named first team while sophomore KJ Page and junior Kennedy Nichols are both second team. Tabbed as Honorable Mention All-Region were freshman Shelby Gettings and junior Sydney Lee. The Lady Cougars host Todd Central at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the first round of the 13th District Tournament. Russellville and Franklin-Simpson are matched in the second game.

Tonisha Hampton to sign with CUH

A fourth Russellville High School cheerleader has been recruited to cheer for the teams at the new Campbellsville University Harrodsburg. Tonisha Hampton, who has also been a starter on the Lady Panthers softball team throughout high school, will sign with the new school Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the school library. Coach Beverly York says, “She excels both academically and athletically. They will be proud to have her as their own. As a coach, she is the prime example of what you want your team to be.” Sydnor has been taking dual credit college courses at SKYCTC. She will join fellow former RHS cheerleaders Mia DeVinney, Dakota Marc, and Makayla Davis at the Harrodsburg campus.

Parent nominations for RJSHS SBDM being accepted

Russellville Jr./Sr. High School is currently accepting nominations for the 2019-2020 Site-Based Decision Making Council. This council works as a group of Parents, Teachers, and Administrators to make decisions about our school. The SBDM will meet once a month at the school. Any interested Parent must have a child enrolled in the 6th-12th grade for the 2019-2020 school year and may not be a school employee. If you are interested in serving, submit your NAME and PHONE NUMBER to the middle school or high school office no later than Friday, May 10, at 3 p.m. Voting will be held Wednesday, May 15, through Monday, May 20, for all valid candidates.
