Russellville Independent Schools and the 2020 graduating senior class experienced their first Senior Deep Dive Day Friday, Sept. 20. Superintendent Bart Flener facilitated this senior project to guarantee that all RISD Seniors accomplish “Russellville READY!” status, which in turn demonstrates their 21st Century skills and the fact that they possess the necessary requirements to be college or career ready.

This was the first of three Deep Dive Days where seniors began their morning taking a citizenship exam to reveal their knowledge of our country.

Leaders were Carol Elliott, Brooke Waldrup, Bro. Muryd Scipio, Sandra Kinser, and board member Joe Sparks. Other supportive adults that assisted were teacher Bethani Hargett-Slack, Principal Ben Bruni, senior coordinator Tracy Naylor, staffer Juli Link, central office adminisrator Cassie Reding, and Dr. Steven Moats.

Students spent the rest of the day participating in small-group research projects and then utilized power-point presentations to share their findings with the entire group. Food drives, new parent plans, daycare centers, and economics were a few of the in-depth topics the students researched.

The students also enjoyed an afternoon snack provided and donated from Slappyz.

Future dates scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd Deep Dive Days are Friday, Nov. 8, and Friday, Feb. 28.
