Logan County Career and Technical Center’s newly created Health Sciences Career Academy held an induction ceremony for its first cohort of students on recently. The ceremony recognized both juniors and seniors who make up the first group of students selected to be in the LCCTC Regional Career Academy.

The night began with a welcome from the CTC Principal Beth Frogue. After the welcome, the postsecondary partners along with the business/industry partners addressed the students, starting with the Logan Memorial Hospital CEO David Brash. Mr. Brash talked about his excitement for the partnership with the academy and the work-based learning opportunities that the hospital is looking forward to providing for the students prior to high school graduation and the employment opportunities that may be available to them after graduation.

The representatives from the postsecondary partners, Dr. James McCaslin, former Vice President of Outreach and now Provost of Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) and Scott Necessary, Director of Dual Credit and the Assistant to the VP of Enrollment at Campbellsville University, both spoke about the dual credit opportunities that students would be afforded by being an academy student.

The Keynote speaker for the induction ceremony was Leslie Slaughter, who serves as the Executive Advisor to the Office of Career and Technical Education and Student Transition at the Kentucky Department of Education. She previously served as Kentucky’s State Coordinator for the New Skills for Youth initiative, which is the grant that has afforded the Logan County Career & Technical Center and its students the opportunity to be a part of the Health Sciences Career Academy.

Superintendents, principals, guidance counselors and other administrators from Logan County Schools, Russellville Independent Schools and Todd County Schools were in attendance to witness and celebrate this first cohort of students.
