LCHS to host regional archery
LCHS Athletic Director Greg Howard says, “Logan County's growing prowess in sports is not limited to the bigger sports that have been around for a while. LC is proud to announce the school has been awarded both the NASP Archery Regionals and the KHSAA Region 2 Archery Championships.” NASP Regionals will take place at LC on February 21 and 22 in both gyms. KHSAA Region 2 Championships will take place on the 27th and 28th.

Logan 8th Grade Cougars
win big over Franklin
The Logan County boys 8th grade team defeated Franklin-Simpson Tuesday night in the 13th District Middle School Tournament 51-16. The Cougars will now play Todd County at Todd County Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for the 13th District Middle School Championship. Athletic Director Greg Howard says, “Congrats to the coaches and players on their success in just the first year of playing together. If you haven't had a chance to see these kids play, I encourage you to come watch them at Todd County Thursday.” Seventh Grade boys coach Brent Hinton has been named a coach on the West All-Star team for Saturday.

Auditions set for Logan
middle musical this week
Logan County Middle School Musical Auditions for a role in Annie Jr. will be held this week in the LCHS Band room Monday (3:30-5:30 p.m.) or Tuesday (3:30-5:30). Possible callbacks will be held Thursday at the same time. Auditioners are asked to prepare a song of their choice. If you are interested in auditioning for lead roles, be familiar with the song “Tomorrow.”

Logan cheer competition Saturday
The Logan County Cheer Competition will be held at LCHS this Saturday. Spectator admission will open at 9:45 a.m. Order and times of competition: TT Tiny 10:03, Olmstead 10:13, Adairville 10:23, Auburn 10:33, Lewisburg 10:43, Chandlers 10:52 and Logan County 11:03. Awards will be presented about 11:15. Admission will be $4.

Tri-Star Basketball set Feb. 1
Russellville Optimist Club’s annual Tri-Star Basketball competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Russellville Recreation Center. This pass, dribble, shoot contest is for ages 8-13. Among the coaches will be the Bowling Green Hornets’ Nathan Thompson. Helping sponsor the event are the Logan County Jr. Optimist Club, Upward Bound, and Community Education.

Death claims Auburn
businessman Phil Bilyeu
One of Auburn's leading businessmen has died. Phil Bilyeu passed away at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville Monday following a major stroke and heart attacks last week. He was co-owner of B & J Auto Sales, and he and his partner Michael Johnson have been owners of several commercial properties in Auburn. Mr. Bilyeu is survived by his wife Diana, son Barry Bilyeu, sister Dianne Crane and grandchildren Landon and Eva Grace Bilyeu. Visitation at the funeral home in Auburn will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday with the funeral Friday at 2 p.m.

MLK Commemorative Unity Walk set on Monday, Jan. 27 at 8:15 a.m.
The public is invited to attend the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Unity Walk Celebration that will start Monday, Jan. 27, at 8:15 a.m. The walk will begin from the historical site at Jesus Church of Russellville, at 637 East Fifth Street, and proceed walking up East Fifth Street; walk around the square arriving upstairs of the old historical Logan County Courthouse on West 4th /Winter Street where a historical and educational program presentation will be held for community leaders, pastors, churches, musicians, elected officials, businesses, organizations, parents and students from Logan and Russellville schools.

receive softball honors
Three players from the Land of Logan have received pre-season softball honors for the 2020 season. In a ranking of Top Ten players in the Fourth Region, Russellville freshman Amiyah Collier tied for third while Logan County seniors Brea Croslin & Kennedy Nichols were ranked fifth and ninth, respectively. Also receiving votes were Lady Cougars Sydney Lee, KJ Page & Shelby Gettings and Lady Panther Chloe Whitescarver.

Rolling road blocks set
for Simpson County
There will be rolling road blocks in both directions on Interstate 65 near exit 2 in Simpson County on Sunday. Jan. 19. The rolling roadblocks are expected to begin around 8 a.m. and last until noon. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and expect delays. The rolling road blocks are being for a utility project that involves a crossover.

Pastfinders' subject Saturday
The first meeting of 2020 for the Southern Ky Pastfinders will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday the at the Logan Public Library. The program will be presented by Gary Violette from Elkton. The title of his program is "T is For Todd County." An architect and avid historian, Gary has developed a PowerPoint presentation that reveals some obscure and unique facts regarding Todd County's history as well as its relation to Logan County.
The public is welcome, and admission is free.

State hall of fame to honor Lillie Mason during Friday's boys Clash
From Athletic Director Greg Howard: Logan County High School is proud to announce that in addition to the 2020 Hall of Fame activities this Friday night, we will also have a special presentation during the halftime of the boys game. KHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame member Lillie Mason will be honored at that time. Greg Purpus, director of that state Hall of Fame, will do the presentation in the presence of her hometown fans. Mason is a charter member of the Logan County Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame.

Ribbon cutting for new Russellville Senior Center planned tomorrow
This Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting at the new Russellville Senior Center/Community Services Center. It’s located in the newly remodeled building which was the long-time home of Logan County Public Library. The address is 201 West Sixth Street and the ceremony will take place between noon and 1 p.m. during the center’s Grand Opening.

F-S holds off Lady Panthers 44-34
The Russellville Lady Panthers kept the score close almost all of the game Friday but lost 44-34 to visiting Franklin-Simpson. Chloe Whitescarver's second 3-pointer tied the score at 23-23 late in the third quarter, but the Lady Cats outscored their hosts 21-11 the rest of the game. Jordin Morris was the leading rebounder and scorer for the home team with 14 and 9. Actually Amijah Collier also had 9 points. Russellville didn't shoot well, going 31 percent from the field, 17.6 percent from 3-point range, and 33 percent in free throws. Anastasia Dowlen added 8 points and 12 rebounds. Franklin freshman Conleigh Wilson had an outstanding fourth quarter for Coach Lex Lindsey. She finished with 8, just a point below Alera Barbee. The Lady Panthers are 8-4 on the season and F-S 6-6.

Classic underway at RHS
Several outstanding teams are part of the Ashley 'Cocoa' Kees Classic going on today at Russellville's Jim Young Gymnasium. The event honors the late coach and former outstanding RHS athlete who died unexpectedly in April. The 3 p.m. game will feature Bowling Green High School against Calloway County. BGH is led by former RHS coach/athletic director Calvin Head and his assistant, former Lady Cougar start Chloe Elam. At 4:30, Graves County will play Whitehouse Heritage, and then at 6 p.m. the host Lady Panthers of Coach Cameron Jackson will entertain West Creek, also of Tennessee. Tickets are $8 for the day.

Addie White leads Logan in romp
Senior Addie White got the Logan County Lady Cougars off to a great start in the first quarter on the way to a 57-23 district win over visiting Todd Central Friday. White, who is part of an all-senior starting lineup, hit a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter and five for the game in limited action for 17 points. Page Vanzant scored 13 and Peyton Vanzant 9. Coach Finley Baird used all the players on her bench in the first half, and the starters saw limited action. Emoni Fort led the Lady Rebels with 7 points while Shelby Johnson added 6. The Lady Cougars are now 2-0 in the district.

Twin twinbills in 13th District set tonight
All eight 13th District varsity basketball teams will not only be in action tonight, but they all will be playing another district team. Franklin-Simpson's girls and boys teams will be at Russellville while Todd Central's teams will be at Logan County. One highlight will be the return of Auburn resident Dennis Pardue to coach against the Cougars. Pardue has revisited his first head coaching stint at Todd Central as the Rebels' head coach again. In between he has coached Russellville, Garrard County and a school in Tennessee. Portions of all four games will be aired on WRUS (104.9 FM, 610 AM and on internet.
